They could but the shadows produced from the seams would really stand out, not really a problem with an alien though.
I just feel that going a real fur route would result in a better looking figure then anything sculpted could achieve.

I agree real fur would be the way to go. But I have doubts they could make it look great mass produced. Would the fur be attached to a rubber or spandex body suit with an articulated figure inside or be attached directly to the figure? Would they use the tall armored figure body, the same one as Vader?

If someone could show a mass produced fur item the likes of Chewie that didn't look horrible, I'd entertain the idea.

I think consulting Hot Toys and using the techniques employed with the Hot Toys Alien figures is the way to go. Will the joints all hide, of course not, but they'd be hidden pretty well, and certainly it would blow away any Chewbacca we've ever seen. All due respect to the custom fur ones I've seen and their owners, but I've never seen one worth paying over $100 for with fur.

Well, I hate to mention it, but Hasbro did a furred Chewie twice for $19.99. The base body sucked, and the face sucked, but the furred body worked fine. Why so hard for SS? All you need is the correct scaled body and a proper face and the Hasbro style furred bodysuit would work fine. We'd all just have to futz the fur to get it right after taking it out of the box.

The fur suit used on Andromeda's Rev Bem by Blue Box some years ago was actually well done, and for only $25.

I'm sure Sideshow could produce a specially designed Chewie fur suit that looked infinitely better at a higher cost. I personally wouldn't mind paying up to $150 for a good fury Chewbacca (especially since I'd need only one).

A couple of things - prototypes are produced with production in mind. But ^^^^ happens, what they thought would be easy to find turns out to be unavailable, Lucasfilm requests changes, etc. There are a lot of things that can happen we aren't privy to.

As for a furry Chewie (which is the only acceptable Chewie) I think it's more how to do the head, than the furry body suit.

If Luke's judo shirt is such a problem why don't peeps just do the ol' water treatment trick? Nearly every figure I've bought off SS I've water treated - jedi robes and cloaks really need this otherwise they just look too flouncey imo. Even if they managed to find and use the exact same fabric from the proto - i reckon it still wouldn't look like the proto. I mean its new and freshly cut cloth so is everyone that surprised?

I know, I know, "if i pay that much for a figure it should look perfect straight outta the box"... personally even if a figure did look perfect straight outta the box, I'd still adjust belts, collars etc etc but thats just me :p

Alot of posters here sound like Luke "awww I was going to the Taashi Station to get some power converters" :lol

Anyone get their 3-day shipping notice yet? I got my 10 - 12 day notice on June 26. Today is now July 7. I would hope that sometime this week we'll be getting the 3-day shipping notice for this Luke!

I'm hoping that mine will be charged sometime this week. I did the PPO for the exclusive figure on the first day of PPO for it.

Is anyone else in the same camp as me with this figure where the paint looks good but you're just bugged a little by the tunic. I seriously don't have an issue with the paint apps.(besides the color of the hair i think it looks good)

That's exactly how I feel.

I'll wait until I have him in-hand before I harp on the tunic more, but at this point it appears as if the material wouldn't be helped by the water treatment much, if at all. Hell, I'm worried that it might become see-thru!

In any case, Atom Hues and I have already discussed holding a "Luke Fixer-Upper" customizing party to repaint the heads, create new tunics, etc. One way or another a realistic Luke will be had! :rock

"You can waste time with your friends when your chores are done."

:rotfl nice one

The weave will only be noticeable under close-up scrutinised conditions surely? Are you guys always going to be two inches away whenever you're looking at it? I guess I'm able to 'look past' such things...

I just spoke to Kathy with Sideshow on the phone today. She said that the exclusive Luke Skywalker will begin being charged to credit cards tomorrow. They expect to ship him out later this week! I got my Processing Alert Notice e-mail about it just now. Very cool! :banana

So he should be to us well before SDCC then. Guess I better figure what pose I'm gonna go with.

Dear Valued Collector,

We will begin processing all orders for the Luke Skywalker – Episode IV – Sideshow Exclusive 12-inch Figure collectible (item #21161) on July 8th. We ask that you have the funds available on your credit card by this date to ensure the successful processing and shipment of your order.

Just realized he comes w/ a stormtrooper blaster, but doesn't have a grappling hook. I'd rather have that than another trooper blaster.

Got my processing notice today too, my guess is he starts shipping Thursday, if he ships by Friday I'll have him next week.
