Anime Figure/Statue Discussion Thread

i cancelled a few shunya-based statues in order to get some other items which ultimately meant more to me in the bigger scheme of things.

shunya's rogue and black widow bishoujo figures were nice and all, but i wasn't happy with their tiny scale, so cancelled em in favour of the adam hughes catwoman statue (cover girls of the dc universe). she isn't that much bigger either, but just seemed like more value for money compared to the bishoujo marvel girls. plus i already have rogue, in comiquette form.

so yeah, sacrifices are sometimes necessary (and wise) in this pricey hobby of ours.

I've had a cancel a couple of things recently cos there's so much CS Moore goodness coming out in October I think my Bank will explode but I will have an awesome display so it's worth it

I don't know the Shunya piece you are referring to but the Catwoman and all the DC Covergirls produced so far are gorgeous, so good choice imo

oh i dig moore's stuff too but unfortunately they're not usually carried by the retailers in my country, and i don't wanna risk evilbay. which in a way is good cos otherwise i'll be seriously broke. i mean, MORE broke than now. which is broker. hahaha, lame pun.

yeah for some reason the AH! dc girls seem to turn out better than the marvel versions. or at least closer to hughes' artwork, in terms of the faces...

Yeah Moore prices can be insane on evilbay unfortunately.
Thanks for the piccie , I quite like the Black Widow, she's pretty cool but I still agree you did the right thing in choosing the AH series.
I know what you mean, they may be slightly smaller in scale but imo the DC ladies collection have captured AH's Artwork perfectly. I had them all on order myself but those are some of the things I had to cancel. I might get them down the road, just not right now as I have other stuff to pay for

sorry for sidetracking this thread, but can u tell me why moore's stuff is so expensive on evilbay? is it cos the edition size is very small and people seldom wanna sell em, or what?

btw, any chance of trying to fix the language filter again? or else havok's gonna have to keep typing shunyama instead of shunya yama^^^^a...

I don't really mind referring to him as ShunYama, I think it's kinda catchy.

Anyway, I got in another piece based off the master artist's work today. This is another Fine Art Bust by Kotobukiya and her name is Shii Arisugawa. I think this one is probably one of the closest to the original art that I've seen yet and I really like the way it looks, I think it has alot of life to it. The glasses were a bit of a pain to get on but that's besides the point. Here's a few pics......

yeah shii is cute! i like the way her tongue is sticking out like that, makes her look more cheeky.

Thanks man. Yeah I put a little gloss on her tongue as well as her hair. I know that may sound weird but it was all dull and it just didn't look right to me.

A lot of Moore's stuff is signed and have low ES's not to mention the fact that he (imo) is the best sculptor of the female form. It's a select crowd really that buy them so once bought, a lot of the time they stay with their original owners. Unfortunately as with any other franchise, there are some who just buy to flip which ruin it for peeps who missed out on earlier releases or have to resort to evilbay.

As for the name/language filter, sorry. We did try it but it was abused so it stays.
Why not just call him Shuny?? ...worth a try I guess??

See, thats the thing with these, they are not ladies. You remember when we talked and I said I don't like the ones that look like young girls cos it's creepy and with some very innapropriate. Well, imo these do look like young girls. You have gone there buddy
So personally, I don't like them, but then we all like different things and it's each to their own. You enjoy them cos it's what you collect so all is good

I guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree then. Compared to others I've seen, these definitely don't look like young girls and I could give you lots of examples of little girls in this style. Granted they do look a little younger than the Western style lady statues but that's just the Japanese Anime style, it doesn't mean they're little girls. Like you said though, we all like different things but I haven't crossed that line cause in my eyes these may be younger looking than other female statues but they aren't little girls.

You know I agree with you that it's creepy to collect statues of little girls but these are based off one of my favorite artists. He may portray them as young looking but I don't see them as little girls. I could go on about this cause I feel pretty passionately about it but it'll just be the same thing over and over again. Sorry if I ranted hun but like I said, I feel pretty strongly about it but I respect your opinion of course.

I didn't mean to run you out hun, sorry if I came off too strong. I see what you mean now about them not looking little girl young but just young, I misunderstood you. To me though, they can look young and still be okay. I really do think it's all in the different styles though and that's just the way Anime is.

"shuny" ?? hahahaha! that sounds like one of those el-cheapo electronics brands that rip off established names like sony.

thanks for the 101 on moore's stuff. i have seen a couple of pieces on my local retailers' store-display shelves but they're never for sale (usually the owner's personal collection). and i do agree abt him sculpting women in the most way. kinda like the artist boris vallejo's fantasy women. tasty.

and i'm with havok that shunya(aka shuny)'s work is different from the usual pervy jap art that depict girls as underage. personally i find that stuff disturbing as well. i guess the most obvious difference is the proportions in the faces. shunya draws his girls' faces with the balanced proportions of a teen or young woman. other japanese manga art tend to exaggerate the eyes and draw the nose and mouth much smaller to give the impression they're not "fully-grown" yet, and hence underage.

not trying to convince u of course, cos as they say different strokes for different folks.

but just wanted to share a thought on what i feel crucially sets shunya's work apart from the rest...

I got in probably my last ShunYama figure for a while. I went a little crazy with the purchases but I'm 100% happy with everything that I got. This one is Petra by Aoshima and I really love the outfit on her as well as the way her hair is. Here's a few pics for you all to look at......
