Re: Anyone considered picking up Hot Toys due to Re-releases of previous characters?

I certainly am. I never knew they made the figures in a 1/6 scale of predators/AvP. Until my brother in law took me and my wife to Franks & Sons. A vender had all the figures in display behind glass shelf. So now with the remakes announce it gives me a chance to collect all these awsome figures I never knew existed. I don't think people should be upset over the remakes. HT is targeting new customers. That didn't get a chance to own some of they're earlier figurines.
The only people I see get upset over this are the ones reselling the first generation figures for a lot of cash.

As well as the ones who paid a small fortune to acquire them.

He means to troll that other guys thread, nothing more.

I actually think this is a fair question.

The prices some of these things go for on eBay is ridiculous. HT aren't stupid. They see this, figure there's some demand out there for X figure at a reasonable price, why not re-issue?

HT gets a) new sales of a pre-existing figure, and all they've had to do is dust off the molds; and b) new collectors pick them up, and want to then buy more HT figures.

Win for them all round, I'd say. Tough luck to flippers and hoarders, but I find I can live with their discomfort pretty easily. :lol

Why would they be upset? They got what they wanted, at a price they were willing to pay. I know I've paid above market on a couple of older figures. They re-release them tomorrow, I wouldn't give a crap

That is exactly right, if people are just in this hobby to say how much their collection is worth or complain that said figure isn't worth $200/300/400+ because there is a re release they are collecting for all the wrong reasons.

Where does it stop though that's the question. You need to make your product at least appealing for a while. Like what they did with the DX10 and 13 - I really still can't believe they announced it so soon.

The basically cut off everybody on the fence apart from the hardcore T fans. If your culture is to re-issue everything then nobody takes the gamble.

If they have enough cash to churn out 2.0's they have enough cash to issue figures from other lines.

Also most of the figures on request would make no sense. Why re-issue a Blade or a Leonidas??? Makes no business sense.

Because Blade and Leonidas are attracting big dollars on the after-market and HT figure they may as well be getting some of those dollars. I think that's pretty much why they got the ball rolling on re-releasing Mk 1. As it turned out, the Mk 1 hasn't sold as well as the massive after-market prices seemed to suggest it would, indicating that it wasn't just the figure that people wanted, but the exclusivity that went with owning something that many others did not.

Most people would only pay that if it was either pay the crazy price, or not ever get the figure. Then HT comes around and reissues it and you ended up paying too much for the first version. Most people don't like wasting their money, but I guess you're the exception :lol

Not often is something a direct rerelease (as is the case with the Tumbler)

The quality of work keeps escalating dramatically each year. Stuff from only 2 years ago can look badly out of date.

It'd quite sad if nothing gets remade due to already having been done.

I know the sting of seeing OC Bats re-released after I'd shelled out an after-market premium for it was considerably lessened by the fact that the new version was riddled with issues.

I think though with figures like Blade and Leonidis (or most on the list) it's only people that are really into collecting HT's or massive fans of those characters that would buy. Plus collectors are generally nut bags that will pay anything, especially on Ebay.

The whole reason most of those figures fetch big bucks is because not many were issued first time round (for a reason), not because they were massively popular and everyone got one and everyone wanted one.

Re-issue's of Batman/joker/iron man are no brainers because they are the biggest movers with the biggest fan bases.

This "Hot Toys looks at the aftermarket sales" stuff sounds like bollocks to me. They just make what makes the most money at any given time. There's no HT rep checking out Ebay for the future strategy of the company. That's something the fan boys make up in their heads..:lol

but the exclusivity that went with owning something that many others did not.

Spot on.

I can understand that but then again no one is holding a gun to their head to buy it. If I bought a figure far more then it sold for originally then another version came out I wouldn't blame HT nor the scalper who sold it all you can blame is yourself.

He means because HT re-releases so many figures, people may have originally missed out or skipped a certain figure might jump in on a line now that they've got a shot at a sold out figure.

If Hot Toys rereleased The Godfather, for example, I'd definitely get one. I wish they would rerelease older figures.

How would you both feel if you'd paid $600+ for a limited edition figure and then less than a year after owning it, HT releases a better version for 1/3rd the price? While first impulse is to front like it wouldn't bother you at all, admit it, it would suck.

It would suck ***** big time and it would take a brave man to turn around and say " I got what I wanted so I'm happy"

Yeah right.... :lol

I don't even blame myself. I pay a price that I'm comfortable with for a figure. Simple as that.

If HT re-release it down the track, so what? I paid what I was happy with to get a figure I'm happy with.
