We didn't go to the doctor, but what appears to have been H1N1 made it's way through my home about 2 months ago; it was a little more severe than the regular flu, but not much. :sick

Good job. I'm proud of you for being able to read and understand simple definitions. :clap.
Tell you what. My post to you may have been viewed as condescending which I appologize for, this one to me defineatly is so how about we give each other a little common courtesy. Point of my post is you don't see everyone spreading the scare around about the common cold do you? Another link I read was that the common flu kills as many as 250,000 to 500,000 a year worldwide. Swine flu is no where near that. Unless a whole lot of people get sick fast then this was much ado about nothing. I don't now about your area but it isn't even being discussed anymore in my area.

I'd like to appologize for hijacking your original post. Hope you and your family start to feel better and have a great New Year.

Thanks and no worries. Threads mutate.

As for the family, my wife's fever broke yesterday and I seem to be in the clear. My son has been with both sets of grandparents for the past few days and is happy as can be. To be honest, as long as he's okay I'm a happy man. :joy

When this virus first appeared, no one knew how it would behave. Now that the dust has settled, it's easy to see that it was a mild influenza strain.

I think the take home message is that we are fortunate that we were able to produce a vaccine for a new virus in ~6 months. That's pretty encouraging right there. I would be a happy man if all outbreaks were as mild as this one, but when the next one hits, we again must be proactive.

You were the one giving me a hard time for using the word "pandemic", when it was officially classified as such by the World Health Organization. I'm sorry it wasn't the apocalypse, but it was technically a pandemic.

Oh the zombie apocalypse is coming. When all those poor poor people that received this vaccine die and come back as zombies. :rotfl

Don't know if I had h1n1, but I had some form of flu and I was sick for about a month.

First had a headache, next day sore throat, couple of days later fever, then I lost my voice for about a week, then I started to get better.

Was pretty bad. Can't remember the last time I was sick like that. Best part was that my family got sick after me, so I was all better when they were feeling like crap :devil

Not sure if I had it--I had a fever for 5 days but I never went to the doctor's because it never went beyond 101 degrees fahrenheit. I was just wiped out...and for two weeks after, I could barely function at the slavemines. I was hacking out my left lung...and it seemed like I was getting a new cold every week or just the damned cold I had would not go away. I got scared because I felt like fainting walking across the parking lot a few days before Christmas, so I went to the doctor's to make sure it did not go in my lungs...but my lungs were fine.

My kids had the H1N1 shot, but I didn't. My youngest developed a 1-day type of flu while I was sick, but it was not as bad as I had it...where it went on and on.

Parents send their kids to school with high fevers and passing out. If I didn't work for the school system, I wouldn't get it. I also don't panic like some when they miss it.

Seriously. I can't tell you how many kids around cold/flu season are sitting in class barely able to function let alone be attentive. The day before Christmas Break I had a student who has the luxury of having me 3 times for different classes be outstandingly sick. In 1st period, she was pale and wobbly. By 4th she couldn't keep her head up. By 6th she fell asleep in the back of the room. Each period I sent her in the office to call home, each time the parent told her to stay in school. She even complained to me about being 15 and old enough to stay home alone but her parents said no. The best I could do is make her comfortable and keep her as far away from the other students as I could but who knows who spent the first week of the holidays sick...

I'm more concerned with the amount of people who think it's okay to feed their children Doritos and Coke.

My students live off of Energy Drinks that look like they've been packaged in a drum, Coffees from Starbucks as big as all possible and more candy than Willy Wonka could ever dream up. I don't see a lot of sodas because they banned them but there is one thing that has taken its place....

Gatorade!!!!!!!!!

Yup. My kids drink more Gatorade than the entire NFL. Ironically it replaced sodas to help curb obesity but anyone who really played sports knows that if you drink a lot of Gatorade and don't really work out you'll start to put on weight. I have students at lunch who buy four or five and drink them through the day. Some even mix flavors across bottles and drinking a ton.

Cool....I will make a bad ass Zombie.

Um...no, it's more likely that you aren't getting the flu because are out of the military and out of close quarters conditions, like barracks, in which your exposure level would be higher. :duh

Nice assumption. During my 12 years in the military I probably lived in close quarters conditions for a total of 1 year. I still work in the same environment around the same people that I did from 2001-2005. I got the flu each of those years and each of those years I had to get a mandatory flu vaccine. Since then I have not gotten the flu and not taken any flu vaccine. My exposure level since 2005 is neither higher or lower.

So you can take your :duh and keep it.

Unless they drink Gatoride 2 or lite, they're getting high doses of sugar and salt. Another thing is Mountain Dew. Parents are letting their kids drink that also and it has high sugar, salt and caffiene. And don't get me started on coffee for little kids too. Then they can't understand why they're so hyper. Oh yeah, it's because they're ADHD. They need ritalin!

I caught it in the summer.... Luckily I caught it early and I jumped on some antibiotics fast. It wasn't too bad. Just a heavy cough, achey all over and sinus crap...

But the test (sticking a tube down my nose) sucked. But helped catch it early!

I felt bad for my wife when they did it to her... I swear they shoved that thing like 3 inches into her sinus cavity... She cried afterward :monkey2
