I heard from the AT&T person I spoke to on the phone who said preorders will only be taken in-store.

Even though it's an official AT&T rep, I still take it with a grain of salt.

Oh you know I don't believe it. LOL! So I think I am going to go with iphone. I will have my Evo pre-order in with Radio Shack tomorrow. So I plan on telling them to move it to iphone for now.

Thats what I did to get my stuff over from my first gen to my 3g.

apple (as with 3GS) is making plenty of 4's so we will all be covered; pre-orders will all be fulfilled. can't wait to pre-order mine!!

They say that, but I didn't reserve my iPad and got to the Apple store an hour before the store opened to stand in line....I left with one in my hands. If they sell out I can wait a week or so for one to come int.

When the 3G first came out, I walked into Best Buy and walked out with my phone in about 20 minutes. No reservation needed.

i also have to say thank you to AT&T for letting people renew their contract early and get the new phone for cheapo (if your contract ends this year)...

since mine doesn't end til december, i'm grateful

Yeah I'm sure you can shop around if you can't find one. There's about 15 AT&T stores in my town, a Best Buy, and an Apple store within a 10 mile radius.

Apple said at WWDC that the iPhone 4 is supposed to have a screen that is made of a much stronger glass that is "chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic" and it's "ultradurable and more scratch resistant than ever."

...but still not strong enough to survive a 3.5ft fall.
