Apple said at WWDC that the iPhone 4 is supposed to have a screen that is made of a much stronger glass that is "chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic" and it's "ultradurable and more scratch resistant than ever."

...but still not strong enough to survive a 3.5ft fall.

First iPhone 4 drop test:

B.S. That kind of damage isn't going to happen from a mere 3 1/2 foot fall (unless they actually threw the thing as hard as they could, then MAYBE).

I've dropped my 3GS a few times :)monkey2), including 2-3 times onto concrete from a distance higher than 3.5' and the worst I got was a very small crack near the bottom that would never have happened in the first place if I had a screen protector or, better yet, a case on the phone.

This was yet another Gizmodo stunt to grab attention.

Fixed.

It broke on the third try. Drop any glass touch phone enough times, it will eventually hit that magic spot to shatter the whole thing.

Hey I only posted what Gizmodo deemed enough to put in their front page header. Even still, three drops at a mere 3.5 feet seems a little weak considering Apple supposedly outfitted the new phone with stronger glass.

I've dropped my iPhone 3GS twice before from at lowest waist height and it survived, for the most part (some scratches).

I will say this, my sisters fiance dropped his out of his pocket and it looked the same way when he picked it up. Maybe there is a sweet spot? :dunno LOL! I will be insuring mine. :rock

In retrospect, I find it kind of suspicious that Apple would introduce its line of bumper protective cases during Jobs' demo at WWDC. Have they ever done that before? Shill their protective cases at the unveiling of a new gadget?
