Gizmodo is doing an interesting job chronicling the failure this Pre-Order day has been, security breaches, backorders through AT&T, pen and paper POs, Best Buy not using the AT&T servers at all (I wonder how that'll impact if they run them all at the same time...) great reading if you're aren't stuck on a processing screen like me.

Based on the fact that people are still posting in comments about how Chen should go to jail, I'm sure they are for all the headache. The accessing someone else's account though by simply hitting refresh is a bit shocking that after the iPad breach this one went completely unchecked.

Jason Chen should go to jail. Knowingly purchasing stolen goods is a Felony. So is extortion

In the criminal charges, there are claims (with phone call/time & email records) that he also attempted to extort Apple for $$ (or whatever else he wanted from them) before breaking the story.

Authorities don't come into someone's home and seize their property just for being a ********* blogger. Otherwise, hardly anyone would have access to PCs.

Ah....I did not know he tried to extort money from Apple...interesting how that part was left out of the Giz coverage. No success with their servers, I'm giving up for a lunch break.

Ok here is my first experience in trying to deal with At&t today.

Woke up and tried to get online at 7am. No dice. So some of you know I pre-ordered the Evo at Radio Shack. I gave them $50 and they gave me a giftcard. I decided to switch my pre-order to iphone. The guy told me no worries he will call when I can come in. So I got a call today from the store manager. She said I have to come in at 1pm and pre-order. Note I have to come in! So I left work at 12:30 and went in at 1. She rings me up and says uh oh we don't have them. Mind you I was right there at 1pm. So now my goal was to fight the servers at home. So I demanded my $50 deposit back. She said she couldn't give it to me because it was on a gift card. I didn't feel like dealing with it and requested the phone number to the DM. So I come home and still no internet dice. So I can At&t and hold for about a half hour or so. When I get through the guy says you have to pre-order online. Or in a store. So I say ____ it! I drive to the at&t store that is right by my office! So yeah I drove all the way home to radio shack and then back to where I started. I wait about another half hour for an associate. While I'm waiting Radio Shack calls and says they were able to pre-order my phone. Hmmm so now magically they didn't need me in the store to do this. So I figure I will stay where I'm at and deal with this att guy. He starts ringing me up. This process took about another half hour because he clearly didn't know what he was doing. So finally he gives me my total and I hand him my card. He says "We cant take debit" I'm like ok what about cash. He's like "We REALLY can't do that." So he decides after some persuasion to just run my card as credit even though hes not supposed too. Then he says uh oh! He leaves and comes back about 2 to 3 minutes later and said I was told what the problem is. I have to start all over. So I'm like forget it, I'm done with this for the day. So I call Radio Shack and tell her yes please keep my pre-order. Then I get home and check my bank account and att took out $316.99. So I call them. They are like that will come off in a few days. So basically that's my story. Time to take a nap and hope my iphone comes to radio shack at least by the second shipment.

Well, I said screw it and ran to my local AT&T store. Only issue with me really was had to have my mom authenticate me as someone who can make changes to the account. I'm on the family plan with my folks cause its actually cheaper for me to just pay them than AT&T.

Anyways, so I ran up there and got 3 phones ordered (Me, mom, and sister). They will be delivered to the house when they ship and we have to call in and activate them. Only concern is I had to do a paper po but the folks helping me seemed to be on the ball.

So now its all about waiting till the 24th.

$50 to reserve at Best Buy. I was literally out of the store in under 5 minutes. It'll be almost as quick when I go pick up the phone next week.

Apple's site is up and running but their connection to the AT&T servers is still down. They give you the option to pick up in store but that's it. They don't show the eligibility upgrade. Some customers are reporting that they are just ordering and then going to the store and will handle it in person

Well I just tried on their website and it wouldn't let them deliver. It didn't take any credit card information. It just says we will see you at the store. No confirmation or nothing.
