Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

With very few exceptions just about every order I have ever gotten from SS in over 9 years has failed to meet to prototype's paintwork; I don't expect differently. What does frustrate me though is when the sculpts seem like they get more compressed, elongated or distorted. I am not sure if that happens during the casting process, or from using multiple molds/etc. :dunno

Either way, I will be able to make my own informed evaluation when I get home from work today.

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

The Dinosauria maquettes have all turned out with dumbed-down paint apps when compared to the prototype. This happens with everything that comes out of China.. it's more evident with those pieces that have complicated paint work like Aragorn or the Dinosauria T-Rex.

I have no reason to knock the piece, having the regular on order. I just think it's worth pointing out what has been shown to us for months. :huh

I can't disagree with you, there's no way an assembly line statue painted in a Chinese sweatshop is ever going to be as good as that of a custom paint-up by a professional, esp. with, as you have already stated, complex human paint-ups. Now I won't have my statue in hand for another few days, so I'll reserve my final judgement until then, but from what I have seen so far I think SS has done a very good job. And this seems to be the general consensus amongst those who actual have seen it in person. But we also seem to have our share of trolls around here, who've never ordered this statue, never seen it in person, and yet are willing to share their expert opinions based on nothing more than some iPhone pic's......:duh

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

I wonder if mine will ship sooner or later. I know they said split shipment, but maybe all the exclusives are in already and they are only waiting the customary 15 days for my silly personal check. The wait, and seeing everyones pics, is killing me. Some of these images today look glorious.

Can't wait... :panic:

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

His face does seem a bit long, but I'll reserve judgment until further pics. Distortions to the mold does happen at times. I'd take paint issues over sculpt issues anyday since at least paint can be fixed.

Another thing keeping collectibles from turning out perfect are deadlines.

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

For my part, I was very afraid of pictures by Fremen. I really thought I could say goodbye to this collection.

I received this piece with apprehension, unlike Amanamann, I speak knowingly.

And I can say this. Yes the paint is different from the prototype. But the painting offered by Sideshow, for 210 € is really a very good level. It is applied thinly, nuanced, an attention to detail is a reality on this polystone statue.

I am sincere with you, when I say that the Premium Format is relegated to second place. And that's not being chauvinistic, I have this Premium Format, in my collection.

LOTR FAN you will not be disappointed, apart from a disaster like Fremen , the piece will carry you in middle earth!

Sideshow for ever!

ps: sorry for my bad english. :1-1:

Thanks for sharing your input with us masterside...and don't forget to add your statue to the maquette registry thread started by The Josh. :lecture

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

You know after seeing these side by side comparisons with classic Weta pieces, its hard too see why there asking so much for the these. It almost $75 more per statue. These should have been closer to $150 and the line would be doing much better, and people wouldn't be quite as picky either.

The base on this also is massive and detailed compared to the plain black SS/Weta bases. As Josh and Woodsy have said, prices have changed and considering the base, these pieces are actually priced almost perfectly. $200 would be the perfect pricepoint on these though.

Well ,it's a good start for this maquette line.
The likeness didn't blown me away as I thought it would but it is a very decent one nonetheless.

I've talked about this before....the amt. of time, cost, and effort required to produce specific bases for each individual character is significantly more than that of generic, mass produced bases. Add to that the increased complexity of the maquette sculpts, the superior likenesses, and the alternate display options [for those with the excl.] and these are a significant upgrade to the statues produced 10 years ago. Would I like to be paying $200 or less for these?....of course I would, but the prices are what they are. And based on the fact SS was able to sell over 1500 of these at $235 a pop, obviously alot of people do feel they are worth the price.

:goodpost: Agreed

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

This actually looks bigger a tad bigger than the WETA pieces. Maybe my eyes are deceiving me.

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

Some really nice shots posted today. Paint apps look really good on that one. So I'm very pleased about that. The sculpt in the pics doesn't appear to be 110% dead on but still as good as the PF and as anything we've seen.

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

Just checked in my account and this shows as "item shipping soon." :yess:

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

Well my pics should have scared you. I'm sorry but I'm really getting sick of these stupid eye problems on so many of their statues these days.
This is a beautiful statue but mine looks retarded with the eyes and I'm not one to complain but god I wish they would do something to address this.

I'm sorry I scared some of you with my poor quality pics. I will not be the first to post pics from now on unless I'm able to take some good pics.

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

As I said don't take it so personally. Saying that the grainy pics from a cell phone are nothing meant against you. Even with my Iphone 4 you have to have the right light and stuff to take really really nice pics with it.

Re: Aragorn Maquette - Order NOW, link in 1st post.

I've really nervous about getting mine. I'm hoping so much that it looks better in person. Mine probably won't be here for a couple more days though.
