Definitely agree with you there. The sculpt is the same it's just the preference of taste. Also, with a bit more shadow in the face it would look better in the pics.

It certainly isn't any offense to your pics, but the neck looks really awkward (kinda pencil-necked); anyway Strider = hood to me as it is.

It's nice to enjoy this piece vicariously through the pictures. I decided to stick to the PF line as I don't gave space/funds for both lines. I think the maquette line is going to get fuller faster than the PFs, but I'm so happy with the ones I have that I couldn't bring myself to ditch them. I hope everybody who gets Aragorn is happy with him.

I hope both lines do well and overall I think they will. I do think the maquette line will move faster than the PF but shouldn't be an issue. I just hope in the end LOTR fans and fans of certain companies can be happy.

It would be great to see a pic of it alongside a PF, say Aragorn or Legolas (since both would be based on a 6' person), to get a better idea of what this will look like in relation to the 1/4 scale pieces.

Well I can't wait till someone who knows how to take proper pics post their pics up so it can be seen what the piece actually looks like I suck at taking pics

You know after seeing these side by side comparisons with classic Weta pieces, its hard too see why there asking so much for the these. It almost $75 more per statue. These should have been closer to $150 and the line would be doing much better, and people wouldn't be quite as picky either.

You took some good shots.

You know after seeing these side by side comparisons with classic Weta pieces, its hard too see why there asking so much for the these. It almost $75 more per statue. These should have been closer to $150 and the line would be doing much better, and people wouldn't be quite as picky either.

Well, as I said and got myself in trouble before on another board saying on the price issue. Nothing now costs what it did when the Sideshow Weta pieces hit our shelves. So these won't either and folks just have to deal with that.

Have you actually left your home and bought anything recently? In the last few month's alone food prices have started to skyrocket, as has just about everything else. Add to that the devaluation of the US dollar and everything purchased from foreign countries is costing significantly more money....and we haven't seen anything yet. Now you can remain in your dream world and believe that today's costs should line up with those of 10 years ago, but that's not going to lower prices. And if you think SS is the only company doing this then perhaps you can explain to me why the cost of a Weta environment has doubled in the last 10 years.

And perhaps you haven't noticed this, but the only people who are slagging this statue so far are the ones who have never seen it in person, and they are doing so with the full knowledge that the lighting conditions and equipment being used to photograph the maquette is less than ideal. When the people who actually collect this line and own this statue start criticising it, then I'll take notice. And to date, not a single person who has received their's is talking about crappy paint app's or suspect sculpts. It never ceases to amaze me how someone can look at a less than stellar photo and determine the paint app's are terrible when the person who actually has the statue right in front of them.....can't.

As for the line doing better, how much better do you think this line could be doing when the first statue to be released [Aragorn] with a combined ES of 1550 was completed sold out prior to shipping, and the Legolas excl . sold out in less than 12 hours

Considering the fact that proto pieces are masterly painted I think it turned out very good.

The Dinosauria maquettes have all turned out with dumbed-down paint apps when compared to the prototype. This happens with everything that comes out of China.. it's more evident with those pieces that have complicated paint work like Aragorn or the Dinosauria T-Rex. That's just the nature of mass production. The TMNT turned out alright being a cartoony subject, but even those had their QC issues.

I have no reason to knock the piece, having the regular on order. The underlying sculpt is the best Aragorn there is. I just think it's worth pointing out what has been shown to us for months.
