I'm sure there's just an assumption that being a ranger, the knife was intended for killing food and all where the sword was for combat. Shoot down an animal with the bow, then gut it and all with a hunting knife.

MaulFan, MaulFan. Didn't you watch FOTR:EE? This is the knife that Celeborn gives to Aragorn as they depart Lothlórien, warning him agains the Orcs. It's them he's supposed to be hunting with it.

Sorry buddy, but I don't think it would be with that particular knife. It's the one he received as a gift from Celeborn when they left Lorien. That was one of the scenes from the extended edition. It was an ancient battle blade inscribed with elvish runes in Sindarin that said, "Gud Daedheloth", which translates, ''foe of Morgoth’s realm.'' I think that was likely too valuable a blade to Aragorn for use as a hunting knife.

He actually carried a small utility knife that can be seen in a small sheath lashed to his sword scabbard. It's also called his "eating knife", so I assume that would be the one he'd use for food and the like. The elven knife was only meant for gutting uruks and orcs!

YEP! That knife is pretty killer. I have the UC sword and the Elven knife and they are both pretty badass. I wish the knife had more screen time though.

I couldn't order this piece though, just too broke to do so. But I might just wait and track it down later. It's too sweet a PF not to have IMO.

I have the Ranger sword and Elven knife, too, and I love both of 'em. Maybe you could tell? The knife did have some quality screen time, tho. Lurtz sure got a taste of it.

I'm getting the exclusive because I like the Elven Knife. However, I'm not in love with that pose. I agree that it seems kinda weird to hold a two handed sword and knife simultaneously.

SS did a great job on this one with the sculpt and I must say that the knife does add to it as well.

Maybe the base is a loaner from another PF of Aragorn dressed in the royal Gondorian dress before he officially becomes Elessar.....one can dream right?

I really think this is a case where Sideshow designed the PF to work with the exclusive, to the detriment of the regular edition. The non-hunting knife version would look much better with both hands gripping the sword (or moved out some holding a torch similar to Weathertop). However, if he was holding the sword with both hands, they couldn't include the dagger hand. And, truth be told, I don't much like the positioning of the hand with the dagger either. But, unlike Frodo, at least it appears they scored a home run on the sculpt. And remember, it could have turned out worse:

This really looks great! The likeness is superb, which means alot to me. Not too fond of the exclusive, like the reg. hand better.

Nice catch on the nameplate. They'll get that corrected.

How can they sell out with no ES announced?


I cant wait to se Gimli and GTG in PF!

I just got back into Denver today after spending the past 24 hours on a train trip from Ohio (visiting the family for the holidays) and I hopped on the internet to see what I had missed in the past day only to find Aragorn up for pre-order.

I'm really impressed with this piece. As great as I've thought many of SS's PF figures are, I've never purchased one before. I ordered this one this morning. Hopefully I'll be able to get the funds together to keep it so this can be my first. I'm at a loss of words for how great this thing looks!

The battle at Amon Hen is one of my favorite parts of Fellowship, so to see Aragorn immortalized at this moment as the hoards of orcs approach him is incredible. Excellent work Sideshow!

(On top of this, my 1:6 Ben Kenobi shipped out today as well - what a welcome home!)

Lurtz Exclusive was sold out pretty quickly, but that was because it had a limited edition size which was set the moment it came up for pre-order. With a "Edition size TBD" you hardly ever have a sold-out figure within a certain time frame.

It is always been a interesting phenomena to observe that the edition size should determine the sales! I mean - c'mon! if you like it - buy it! 10,000 pieces or 10 pieces doesn't make that difference?

Morever, there are still countless retailers out there who would order few pieces regardless of whether they like it - they are just in the business.

It looks like they the mentality that, "Hey look! So little of this piece, must ordered quickly now. I am not bothered by the sculpt or likeness, I shall ordered it first, I can always cancel later."

Maybe some of the collectors can share their sentiments ... if this is true.

If both were offered to me for free and I could choose only one, I think I would take this PF over the Cinemaquette. Although I haven't seen the PF in person like I have with the latter, based on the prototype I like Sideshow's version better--and at a fraction of the price!

The order page of Aragorn says this:

yes but he was using anduril then so this wouldnt be accurate for ROTK.
