The paint job on the beard is going to be so important. I really hope the factory that does it comes through.

I am awed by this Aragorn PF. I got Lurtz Excl., passed on Frodo and GtW and thought this was it, but THIS one... I am definitely interested in.

The Exclusive is OK, I agree with another poster, SS tried to come up with an exclusive and the sculpt followed that vs the other way around and so it does seem a bit off, posing him handling the sword with one hand and holding the knife in another. While it is true that one can fight this way (Miyamoto Musashi revolutionized sword combat with this method, altho he used two swords and not a lil' knife), Aragorn was not seen ever fighting this way, so a bit of a 'meh' in that category. Otherwise fantastic sculpt AND costuming.

HOWEVER:

anybody remember the prototype pics of 12" Aragorn?? I certainly do and I was REALLY disappointed once I held the production item in my hand. Felt a bit ripped off even.

So I will wait and see, I will most certainly be able to get this down the road, don't you guys understand you drive the ES up when ordering ASAP?

I still have Frodo and I ordered Aragorn, but sold Lurtz and cancelled Gandalf. I will not be a completist as I am with the Star Wars line, but I will pick up a select few when they interest me and look as good as Aragorn.

I sold Lurtz 2 months ago, never ordered Gandalf and ordered Aragorn yesterday.

Yeah you're right. We should wait until Sideshow suddenly announces that the edition size is set to 600 and it's immediately sold out. Like they did with Frodo

If both were offered to me for free and I could choose only one, I think I would take this PF over the Cinemaquette. Although I haven't seen the PF in person like I have with the latter, based on the prototype I like Sideshow's version better--and at a fraction of the price!

Personally, I'd take the $1500 cinemaquette and put out the $30-$40 for the crown of Elessar. Take away that massive forehead and it blows the SS version out of the water.

I think changing the eyes on the CM Aragorn will make a huge difference. But as for now, the SS piece blows this one out of the park....in the head sculpt category anyway. For everything else, CM is pretty much is superior.

Did someone produce a 1/3 scale Crown of Elessar for $30-$40? I'm familiar with the 1/4 scale replica that Sideshow produced, but that would be way too small for the Cinemaquette...

I'd have to call ya nuts then. The CM one is nowhere near as well done as the job done by Andy. Its just not close and I've seen the CM on in person twice and its just not worth $1500.

That picture is actually showing the Noble Collection crown, which is not 1/3 scale, but not quite 1:1 either.

Sorry, even without the giant forehead, the facial sculpt looks off ... looks more like "Evil Aragorn" for lack of a better description. You can see Viggo in the sculpt, but it looks like he's been possessed Linda Blair style. Is this one of those What If? sculpts like if Aragorn had taken the One ring for himself?

I would love the LOTR PF Aragorn. I think its awesome, but the ex. is lame. He should be weilding the sword with both hands.

that's why im trying to tell you that he's using his oversized brain to kill enemies with telekinesis. his eyes are concentrating on moving large boulders and stuff.

Yea, I call shenanigans! In fact when I came across my boxed up Elessar crown recently I was like "oh goody I can finally try it out on the Cinemaquette!" I'd seen that pic so much I didn't realize they were different scales until I tried to put the crown on him.

The more I look at it, the more I think that the sculpt on the Aragorn PF is the best Viggo likeness I have seen on any collectible so far.

You mean Frodo PF? (1000 ES). Still easy to get on eBay. One sold just yesterday for just under $130! Lurtz had 750 ES Excl and still is to be gotten for retail.

I couldn't order this piece though, just too broke to do so. But I might just wait and track it down later. It's too sweet a PF not to have IMO.

Heh, did it come down to picking two PF's out of Aragorn, Anakin, and the Creature? Whether you did or didn't that's pretty much the boat I'm in. No way I could end up getting the Creature with the one/two punch of LOTR and SW executed so masterfully.

I go back and forth between Anakin and Aragorn as to which one I like better, I figured the wife would prefer Anakin but when I showed them both to her earlier this evening Aragorn won in a landslide. She commented how evil Anakin looked even without the Sith eyes and didn't like how "shiny" his outfit was. All in all she didn't think it was a huge step up from the 12 inch figure (after your repaint obviously. )

But she was blown away by every detail of Aragorn! I'm so pro-SW when it comes to collectibles that I was really able to step back a bit and realize even more what a masterpiece the Aragorn PF is. Its unbelievable, and definitely destined to be in my collection.

I'm still a little shocked that Anakin is turning out to be a bit of a tough sale, we'll see after pics surface from ToyFair and SDCC 2008.
