To provide a venting place for those so consumed with having to collect that it is worth endless arguing and fighting over how a collectible should be altered to meet their tastes because they must have it, but their way, and can't just say, I don't like it, pass, moving along to something I like.

I just meant it as it's not Sparrow until you put the stache, dreads, bandanna and what not. So, technically,it's not Sparrow. Even with the upcoming stache it's still won't be Sparrow, not yet. It'll just be Depp since he usually has a stache...
Aww, but complaining is what fans do best.
Thing is to do a good likeness you must ignore the facial trappings and concentrate on the facial structure beneath. My friend works for Londons Madam Tussauds and he sculpted the Sparrow for that and thats the approach he took.
You're friend does some amazing work... that looks spot-on to me. Although I'm sure we'll have some who will post it doesn't look right to them
No it doesn't... Don't really know what you were expecting, but removing the mustache and dark eyes in PS and replace it with a slab of skin colour isn't gonna give you Johnny Depp... There are subtle factors like facial features, skin tones, light and whatever, that have to be taken in consideration...
Coming soon, stache on Depp.
The above custom sculpt proves you wrong - it has no paint on it or even hair and everyone agrees that it's instantly recognisable as Johnny Depp. The HT DX Sparrow is currently an Asian looking headsculpt with Jack Sparrows facial hair, eyeliner and bandana etc.
Not sure about you but I would like a figure that looks like Johnny Depp - not some guy dressed as Jack Sparrow.
In my opinion the HT figure does look like Johnny Depp, and I'll be very happy to add it to my collection.
Looks nothing like Sparrow....
But looks a lot like Johnny Depp.

He's a senior portrait sculptor for the company, and has been for many years. In fact I know a few senior sculptors there.
I'm afraid he's hasn't seen the HT sculpt because he's not really interested in collecting sadly.
I think I'll try and show It to my other mate who works there and see what he says. I have a feeling he'll say the likeness is wrong in places though.
Not necessarily, HT has altered prototypes on numerous occasions for the better. It's not out of the ordinary.
