To provide a venting place for those so consumed with having to collect that it is worth endless arguing and fighting over how a collectible should be altered to meet their tastes because they must have it, but their way, and can't just say, I don't like it, pass, moving along to something I like.

:goodpost:

btw, just noticed your sig which looks great. and took me awhile to realize that your avatar is of the HT Barney Ross figure and not a still from the movie...or is it?? :horror

Aww, but complaining is what fans do best. :rotfl

I just meant it as it's not Sparrow until you put the stache, dreads, bandanna and what not. So, technically,it's not Sparrow. Even with the upcoming stache it's still won't be Sparrow, not yet. It'll just be Depp since he usually has a stache...

Thing is to do a good likeness you must ignore the facial trappings and concentrate on the facial structure beneath. My friend works for Londons Madam Tussauds and he sculpted the Sparrow for that and thats the approach he took.

You're friend does some amazing work... that looks spot-on to me. Although I'm sure we'll have some who will post it doesn't look right to them :lol

I understand that. I sculpt as well, maybe not as good as some, but I know these things. I've sculpted Depp before and it was my same approach. I still stand by the fact though that it's not Sparrow until he's dressed appropriately. But, now I'm just giving you a hard time on purpose. I knew what you meant from the get go :nana: :wink1: there's really nothing else to talk about besides nit picking so I thought I'd have a wee bit of fun :lol

My only crit would be It would have been nice to have given him smirking rather then a neutral expression, but all things considered I think It turned out really well, especially as they didn't get a sitting with this one.

No it doesn't... Don't really know what you were expecting, but removing the mustache and dark eyes in PS and replace it with a slab of skin colour isn't gonna give you Johnny Depp... There are subtle factors like facial features, skin tones, light and whatever, that have to be taken in consideration... :lol

Coming soon, stache on Depp.

The above custom sculpt proves you wrong - it has no paint on it or even hair and everyone agrees that it's instantly recognisable as Johnny Depp. The HT DX Sparrow is currently an Asian looking headsculpt with Jack Sparrows facial hair, eyeliner and bandana etc.

Not sure about you but I would like a figure that looks like Johnny Depp - not some guy dressed as Jack Sparrow.

Nope, the picture of the custom head doesn't prove me wrong.

That is a sculpt... the area around the mouth is sculpted to have Johnny Depp's facial features.
The official HT pic is a sculpt as well... it was sculpted with a beard to look like Jack Sparrow.
The photoshop manipulation where the beard was removed is a picture of an actual sculpt with some skincolored pasting drawn on top of it, with no regards to the subtle facial features that people have in the nose mouth area :slap

In my opinion the HT figure does look like Johnny Depp, and I'll be very happy to add it to my collection.

That's totally cool - if you think it looks like Depp and you're happy with it then that's what matters in a collectible. In a similar way I like the DX Joker sculpt but many expressed some dissapointment and chose to go for a custom sculpt instead.

Personally, I don't think the current pictures of the Sparrow DX look good enough, they certainly don't look like Depp in my opinion so I guess I'm hoping they improve it before release.

I hope we see the specs and pics this week. Havent been this excited to see a full unveil in a long time. Cant wait

looks like PERS like dx joker and bats. gotta get this, can't wait!

Wow, really? So he's the one who did this wax figure of Jack above? Amazing! He must be really2 good!:) So have he seen Jack's 1/6 figure from HT & EB? What does he think of about these sculpts?

He's a senior portrait sculptor for the company, and has been for many years. In fact I know a few senior sculptors there.

I'm afraid he's hasn't seen the HT sculpt because he's not really interested in collecting sadly.

I think I'll try and show It to my other mate who works there and see what he says. I have a feeling he'll say the likeness is wrong in places though.

Oh I see.

Yeah, if my line of work is of the same as him..maybe I also won't be interested in collecting these kind of stuff cause I've seen the best representation of characters and these things will be a so-so only haha!

Maybe when you show these HS of HT & EB, they could give some great advices on how to improve it then we can suggest it thru their FB pages.

Oh somehow I doubt HT would take much notice of them. I also don't think you're going to see any difference when the final piece is released. I think they've already tooled the molds etc and won't want to go to the expense of altering them this late in the day sadly.

Not necessarily, HT has altered prototypes on numerous occasions for the better. It's not out of the ordinary.
