I believe this is XM sketch of Phoenix their doing... So I would say it's probably a ways off but they're ahead of SS who has nadda so far...

After reading that the XM guys have basically team up with a factory in China where they pay more to make sure QC is high, plus they have even sent their painters over to the factory to train the factory painters to make sure they get the small details right like the eyes.... So If this is going to be the standard for XM I don't mind paying $800 for a high quality - low es - killer poses - extras..

Well, the painters only need to take a 3 hour flight to China to oversee their work... so that should be good. Let's hope qc on all brand of statues gets better, as we are paying more and more for these gems each purchases.

With XM planning on a Phoenix I went ahead and cancelled SS Jean Grey and moved the NRD to another statue...

for the price of the XM Studios Phoenix you could buy the eventual Phoenix / Dark Phoenix PF and the Jean Grey PF. but whatever floats your boat...

I thought about it, but given the less then popular look of Jean Grey PF + Who knows when SS will do a Phoenix (could be 3 years from now), I rather bet on XM... Plus I know the XM Phoenix will be fully sculpted, with SS odds are their phoenix will have fabric on it which I'm not a fan of.. plus SS QC is 50/50 if your going to get a good one or bad one... I've been lucky so far with SS but some of the pieces I've seen people get, yikes...

As long as XM can delivery high quality, low ES and throw in lots of extras I don't mind paying extra money for them. Right now I only have XM Black Widow, once I get her and if she lives up to the hype then yeah I'll defiantly be getting my Marvel fix from XM.

fair enough. Although I think the Phoenix PF is coming out much sooner than 3 years. It's past development stage from what I've heard.

Has XM released any statues yet to judge their QC and/or product replacement program? Have they set a date for their Pheonix?

The more I look at her the more she will fit in with my X-Men Collection but I will not be getting the EX and if for some reason I do, I won't display her like that, it is hard enough getting that Saturday Morning X-Men Cartoon Theme song out of my Head without seeing that Ponytail :lol:lol:lol

So I always take everyone's word into extreme consideration (a curse IMO)...and it seems like this isn't very good.(?)

I mean I don't like the face on the EX head, but I pretty much pre-ordered it at less than retail....I mean I have til November to cancel, but I'm starting to grow away from it...

Tough choices. Oh so tough.

I'm the exact opposite, I take people's opinions with a pinch of salt. Same goes for video games, films, food, women, cars, cats etc etc..........

This statue is perfectly fine in my opinion, I'm buying it because I like X-Men, I like Jean Grey and I like the era that this statue is based from. I buy things because I like it and I want it. End of the day with this hobby for me and any other for that fact 'I buy a statue/blu ray/video game/car/anything because I like it and i want it', but I do respect that some people take reviews/critiques/peoples opinions very seriously.

I can't wait for this thing to turn up on my doorstep :clap

I guess it could be also that she is my only Marvel person, and I havent seen many that interest me.

I mean I only take careful consideration on more than average pricing. Games, movies, and shows arent an issuing to just buy, I just dont want to dive in with 300 bucks and hope its amazing, to only get something 'okay'.

Maybe I should loosen up

Worse thing you can ever do is take other opinions into account in this hobby. Stop it now. Determine what you like, develop a game plan and stick to it. That also helps you contain cost. To many people on these boards just jump on bandwagon and waste money and end up with odd or inconsistent collections.

Well I guess I need a plan lol, I mostly buy stuff I really like regardless of brand. To be fair my knowledge is a bit limited and I dont branch off to things I have no idea about. But these boards have expanded that so: here's to a game plan.

It's my character, but yeah I figured im sticking with it, I often need to hear the negatives to fully commit...sigh.

I am one of those collectors who have pieces from many different lines and whose collection may appear to be somewhat random when viewed at a distance however, to me, it makes complete sense. I only collect what I like and that means that I rarely commit to buying a complete series of pieces because there are, inevitably, going to be ones that are not as appealing to me as others.

Although I love the X-Men, I can only relate to a handful of them and do not feel the need to have the whole series of pieces. I see things, like the new Sentinel, that I know are going to look impressive but I can easily write them off. I loved the Jean Grey of the 80s (second only to Rogue from that same time period) but this statue doesn't portray her in a way that brings out the beauty of the character that I remember so I may have to pass. I also know that there definitely WILL be a Phoenix of some type released and I have no doubt that it will be great.

Some people love this one and that is awesome because they deserve to have something they love in their collections but others are buying this because it is Jean Grey and they need her in their set even though they don't really care for it. In my mind, that is a mistake and I had done similar things in the recent past (the HCG Selene and the HCG Species Sil to name only two - I knew that they were not well done but I really wanted the characters and I regret having made those two purchases).

The number one thing is to make up your mind (with the option to modify your stance) PRIOR to reading the forums. Listening to the forums caused me to change my mind and skip the Green Lantern EX (which I've seen in person and really like) and also got me to pick up the Punisher (which didn't meet my expectations even though others thought it was great). Now, I go by my own thoughts but still read every forum post for the pieces tha I am interested in because I do value the opinions expressed herein.

If the piece talks to you and you can afford it, then get it. It doesn't really matter if it talks to someone else, if it doesn't speak to you then let it go because there is always another piece you will love around the corner (as this year has clearly demonstrated). Imagine that you missed the piece and if you'd feel bad about that or feel the urge to locate it on the secondary market then you may want to grab it while you can.

Sorry for the super long post, I just cut out some big sections before posting. :)
