Aragorn reg was for sale in the forums for 150, no takers.

Gandalf ex was for sale in the forums for 200, no takers.

185 for Arwen, eh not a great deal.

Being a serious fan does not mean spending stupidly. Too bad Josh can't read any of my posts because he is ignoring me. :)

Exactly, wait and it will be cheaper down the line.

Guess he didn't get the point, nor the fact that the $50 credit could be put towards something else. Serious LOTR fans are smart! : P

Nah we are usually broke, not necessarily smart. I guess no one posting here really wants the line to suffer else new characters are not released. If we all took the wait and save approach, well, we would all be waiting to a long time for the product to come out- if it did at all.

Still I do think the prices are generally too high. Using the BLS inflation calculator, the original retail price of the SSW Gandalf the grey (125 dollars) should be about 145-155 dollars now (I couldn't find the original release date but it shouldn't matter much). Instead we see prices doubling for the maquette line. I know the sculpts are arguably better, the paint better, the base more detailed - the fact is the cost of collecting is rising much faster than general inflation.

EDIT: to be fair the BLS data are likely BS in terms of core inflation numbers.

True that. I think generally for the size the pricing should be lower.

I would rather get a 1/4 scale 27.5" tall Gandalf PF with lightup function for $289.99, than pay $249.99 for a 17.5" tall Gandalf without light up. The difference is $40 for a much larger statue with light up function. jmho.

well, after a simple comment about the paint on the FB page, I sent an email to customer service. If we can get all those that think it needs a better paint-job to write in, who knows what can happen?

Agreed.
Much better to moan at them directly than among ourselves on here.

I am seriously into LOTR, and this line in particular. It pains me to not be able to order Arwen on the spot.

Believe me, I do want her. But, I want her to be right! :(

The pre-production photos do look different. Certainly nicer. I can tell that most of the sculpt is the same on both pieces, however the eyes in particular look a lot better on the pre-production piece.

Thanks for posting those again BTW.

After sending a note to SS about the paint on Arwen, I received this today -

Dear xxxx,

Thank you for the email.

The item on the site right now is a proto-type and is still in the process of being fine tuned, I have passed your suggestion on to the production team.

If you should have any further questions please feel free to contact me.

Hi slynger,

Where did you send your note to?
Most of the SS addresses I have are automated (can't reply to).
I'd like to drop them a line too about the paint-job.

Cheers.

Sean.

ditto what email address?

should just send a link to this thread and wake up the "production team" to take a look at their statue.

the name on my response is Jeff Dean. I'm just glad to hear it is "still in the process of fine-tuning" - keep sending those emails and make sure they here from the fans.

This doesn't ship until Q2 next year thats months April-June so it shouldn't be surprising that its still in pre-production.

Hi, forum newbie but long time and diehard LotR fan and collector here! :wave
I love this new maquette line and so far have ordered all of them. Yup, including troubled Arwen. But beautiful as the statue altogether is, I see the problems with the paintjob on the face. It doesn't do the great sculpt justice and that would be the first in this line. So I emailed them as well expressing my concerns. I really hope all our efforts together help to bring out an even greater Arwen for all of us who dig this line!

Josh and I go a long way back. I'll have to ask Josh if he recalls complaining about any SS piece that he ended up buying, cos my recollection is a bit dim. Chalk it up to old age . . .

Trevor's sculpt, and the painted mock-up have a slight difference. The painted mock-up looks to be a digital rendition, and has a smile on it. Trevor's sculpt and the proto do not show a smile. It would be easier to see the face had they put more color to her.

I believe there are those who feel that SS sculpts are waaaay better than the SS/W ones. There is truth to that, to an extent. When SS decides to jack up their prices, and the quality is no better than the SS/W version, then it doesn't look good on SS.

I was there at SDCC, and IMHO, the sculpt was there, but the paint app was still bad. The SS pics "paints" their sculpts in an uncomplimentary light in every sense. If a sculpt can withstand that type of photography, then in-hand pics will be awesome. Such was the case with the Boromir maquette. The same cannot be said of this Arwen maquette.

At the end of the day, I'm still buying this EX version -- full price. Call me an LOTR sucker. Is it worth it? No. Do I need it? No. But, like some half-cast sandwich, it will still fill some void in my stomach that is LOTR.

Yeah, there's been a couple here and there. :lol If I don't like it though I don't buy it thats my general rule on a piece I'm considering.

We'll just have to agree to disagree how Arwen looked in person and if the same cannot be said of Arwen vs Boromir. :duff
