I too would like the opportunity to order both sculpts, if possible.

My initial preference is with the rooted hair, but my fear is of it going all frizzy and wishing I had gone with the sculpted version...

I don't do Facebook. I stay away from that mess. But that photoshopped pic does look a little better with the lowered hairline and fuller beard/goatee.

The darker/fuller facial hair definitely helps. Not so convinced on the photoshop hairline. I think my initial reaction about it being the paint is right the more I look at it, which is good news I think as the paint is probably much easier to tweak than a sculpt.

I hope Asmus as a whole isn't disheartened by Facebook, people can easily become a-holes when they are safely behind a keyboard. And once the ball starts rolling people don't want to counter them or post positive things as it will only open them up to personal comments too. There is a lot of this figure which looks fantastic, focussing on the bad seems to be human nature...

That photoshopped lowered hair line looks no good to me, once you comb and style the rooted head I think it will look great! I have been extremely happy with all my asmus figures so far and I am certain that borimir will be another winner. Asmus, sorry for all the negativity you guys get, people can be so cruel from the safety of their computers.

I feel the sculpt is not that bad, and the feedback on fb is very rude. But definitely, lower hairline and thicker facial hair really improve the likeness a lot. I think it's a matter of really minor changes.
The outfit is gorgeous, and I really appreciate the fur cloak, and the possibility to choose between sculpted and rooted hair.
One must admit that Asmus is improving the quality of their figures and you can see their dedication in the expansion packs. Revisiting the Hobbit's headsculpts while they were sold out was a good point and made me come back to the hobby.
Hold on Asmus, and continue the GOOD work. Prove the customers you can do some changes for an even better figure.
:)

All the negativity about the headsculpt but just look at the outfit! The tailoring is excellent and a big plus is the use of real leather.

I just waded through the crap. Are you talking about this photo?

That would be it. I really don't see how that is an improvement.

ETA I see more than a couple of you seem to like the lowered hair line. Maybe it's just me then. I didn't comment on it but I do think the heavier facial hair is more accurate.

I think Asmus has proven countless times how willing they are to revisit and improve upon a previous or even current release. There customer interaction has no equal in my opinion--not from Hot Toys or even Threezero--and I hate to hear this kind of negative reaction over Boromir given Asmus' track record of trying to give fans/customers what they want (and I have to believe they take some financial hit when revisiting some of these characters).
No, Bean's likeness isn't perfect but with all of my LOTR purchases, in-hand quality is much different than initial photo releases.

Regardless of the response, I have my rooted hair Boromir on order and I will continue to support Asmus' venture in Middle Earth!
And speaking of revisiting lines or expansion packs if you will. I'm 99% sure he is a member here but someone is accusing Asmus of intentionally releasing " bad"
Sculpts so that we are "forced" to purchase the new head sculpts to make their product better. The new sculpts are being released because we asked for them. Like you said about customer service. Asmus listens to us and has great customer service.

The repainting of the beard will help the likeness a lot. + if you let some of the hair fall on the forehead, it'll look better as well.
I think I'm going to get the figure. So @Asmus, repaint that beard and I'm fine. :lol That seems like a reasonable and easy solution to the problem.

I saw that too. Some people have no idea and see conspiracies everywhere. I have no insider information at all, but surely doing that could not be cost effective? Better initial sales and just one production run has to be better financially than intentionally crippling sales on the hope that people will buy a $40 upgrade head.

Wow. Facebook.

It blows my mind because I can't help but thinking about all the flack this forum has gotten over the years for being "negative" and "unpleasant" and blah blah. People even a couple years ago saying that they prefer Facebook to here because it's a better environment :lol:lol. People say whatever the hell they want on FB with no decorum or boundaries. Those same ******* wouldn't dare say any of that if they were face to face with Asmus's at their booth at a con; or at least not in that tone. And they'd be permabanned if they pulled that here. What a joke

I will respectfully say that I was really hoping for more out of the head sculpt, but everything from the neck down looks AWESOME.

I can see that the original 3D render is the same as the production sculpt, but I can't really put my finger on why they look so different. The 3D render has a very solid likeness but a lot seems to get lost in translation to the physical sculpt. That's getting me a little concerned about the Hobbits because all of their renders look great, and I'm hoping that the physical sculpt will look the same.

I do think that photoshop with the lower hairline and thicker goatee improves it, but something is still missing. I guess the hair color too, but there is still something with the face that I can't place.

EDIT: Speaking of hair color, this rooted hair looks like a much more fitting color for Aragorn's new sculpt than the one used in his proto pics

You guys are seeing something I'm not then. I prefer the molded hair anyway.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. The molded hair is in need of a drop in the hairline far more than the rooted hair, in my eyes at least. I'm not saying the photoshop is perfect, but if you look at a screen cap from the movie, Asmus' two sculpts, and the photoshop together in one image, the sculpted hair is the most off.

This image really shows how much lower Sean Bean's hair sits at the top of the forehead. I agree that if it's lowered and the goatee painted a little fuller, it's a winner! It also looks to me like the nostril section of the nose should be a bit wider too. In this comparison pic it makes the sculpted nose look a little thin.

As for the sculpted hair, I think it needs the same thing on the forehead and needs to be more of a 'round' part in the middle as opposed to 'V' part off to the side. It shows too much forehead and throws the sculpt off a bit. The profile shots look great though.

Overall, a great start! Really looking forward to this guy! :clap

Oh, and add me to the list of wanting to get both the sculpted and rooted hair head for more options. Any thought to allowing those of us that want both heads to be able to pay a little extra for both?

I do not like the lowered photoshopped hairline either. I like the sculpt the way it is but agree painting the facial hair differently would be better. The side profile is uncanny though! I cannot wait for this release

Asmus sorry to see the unfair Facebook comments you are receiving.

The underling sculpt seems to be good and it's the paint and hair futzing on the rooted that are throwing it off. I agree with everyone's comments that the beard needs thickening and the shape of it changed subtlety with the paint application. I also think the eyebrows should be lighter in colour. Please don't lower the hairline that can be dealt with hair futzing.

I also agree with the the comments that if possible it would be great to show Boromir's ears poking through the hair. On the sculpted hair head, the front centre parting would look better if it was more rounded and less of a 'V' shape (someone else mentioned this earlier). Hair colour on the sculpted might look better lightened.

So please don't change the sculpt as it is really good and it's just the paint application that is hiding the likeness.

I wish to echo the comments that I hope you make the haired head available separately as I would like both head options if possible.

Keep up the good work Asmus :clap
