That didn't really answer my question as to why better sculpts were discarded. Look at that Sam sculpt I posted. How in the world do you see a better likeness in the one you released over that? Or Caine's Frodo sculpt or That Gandalf?! I don't get it. I don't see it at all.

And I really appreciate the "don't like don't buy" response...Since I'm speaking out to you to better your product I'm being told not to buy your product? Speaks volumes right there.

Yes, I have just seen them repaint the eyes,
hopefully I can steal it and post some photos here first.

But that isn't the sculpt we initially got with our Frodo and Sam was it?

What about Frodo? What was wrong with Cain's sculpt? Or the original Gandalf the Grey that everyone on this board was pleased with? How did that not make it to final product?

Seriously, if I had a customer like you I would tell you to get bent. There're plenty of other customers who will take up any slack you leave.

Actually for Frodo, we only made minor changes according to the production need.



As for Gandalf, we were going for The Hobbit version, the sculpted head was far too young

I think those changes were uncalled for. Honestly. Where in the production do you lose Woods likeness?

It's also a pity we lost out on that original Gandalf sculpt because that was by far the best Ian McKellan Gandalf sculpt I've seen. Still is.

Frodo = Hair

Thats why we want to bring back the sculpted hair Gandalf, and people like you say we are tricky.

Boromir looks great to me; I feel like I'll get pounced on for *daring* to say that but there it is.
The clothing, gear and the option to buy sculpted or rooted hair is really terrific. I also appreciate Asmus participating in discussions with the customers (and making adjustments based on those talks-awesome!). I want to support businesses like that.

I'm not going to second or third guess their initial art direction decisions. Creative decisions are made and they either work or they don't. I've been critical of a few of those choices (though hopefully in a constructive way), but I think the important thing to keep in mind now is that they're learning from their missteps and they're doing something about it. That's a LOT more than every other company in this hobby. They're growing and improving. They've come a VERY long way from Gothmog. And I VERY MUCH appreciate what they're doing.

I wouldnt be calling you tricky if you delivered a stellar product with the initial release.

We are a vocal community. We've expressed what we liked and disliked with these sculpts and appreciate that as a company you are here to address any issues. You need to take are criticism to heart. We want the best Lord of the Rings 1:6 figures on our shelves (well maybe not Hoodoonit, I guess he's ok with whatever...)

Im sorry if I'm coming off like a ****, but Im passionate about these characters and I want a stellar Fellowship on my shelf. I want them to be as good, no, great as you do but these sculpts need some work. Aragorn is the best you've done. And that was a lot of back and forth to get it right. I just want a full Fellowship at equal quality as Aragorn. I know you guys can do it.

The tailoring and outfits have been top notch and I love the diorama bases and the diecast weapons. You just need to take a step back and look at the sculpts.

Getting feedbacks is exactly why I am here.

I cannot tell you that you are right or wrong, because even for Hot Toys, the best toy company in my opinion, faces subjective discussion on their works. But this is the nature of human mind, we cannot please everyone. At some point, you have to respect the decision we make as the manufacture, and respect the fact, we are working harder to make everyone happy.

Perhaps things you didn't see, is that we were so small, we couldn't afford a good sculptor, and as we grow we start to pay great price for sculpting, may be that is the difference?

there have been MANY time that Sideshow and Hot Toys have had very very bad sculpts and/or paint apps on their final products and they just about NEVER resculpt or repaint them during or after production no matter how much ppl complain. The fact that they say nothing and keep the product as is is just as bad as them saying "don't like it, don't buy it." Sideshow has come out sooo many times with the "well this is our vision on the character" and left it at that.

Yet, here we have Asmus who pretty much keeps us in the loop throughout a lot of the production phase willing to listen to criticism no matter how it comes; but when they get ragged on front to back and sideways to boot b/c they went their own way and didn't do what you wanted them to do

And they give us upgrades for figures as they're learning, getting better and can get better quality sculptors that no one else does in this biz and they still catch flack for it. How many times have collectors said "I wish Hot Toys would go back and make _____ with the quality they have now" yet, that's all you can do is hope and wish for but it most likely won't happen unless its Heath Ledger Joker

How's the musty smell of sitting under Asmus' nutsack?

Quit being the companies apologist. They have room to be better. The figures *can* be better. They are so close.

Look at the track record. 8 figures in. 7 of which have pretty poor liknesses. 6 of which are already out the gate and released. 4 of which have already been confirmed by Asmus to be getting new sculpts (the Hobbits). Then there's the haired Aragorn. And now Asmus is considering releasing the sculpted haired Gandalf. And there's still the Gandalf the white sculpt we havent seen.

Legolas, Boromir and Gimli left. Are we going to see an expansion set for Legolas with rooted hair too? Or an updated Boromir sculpt after this ones released instead of fixing it now?

Repaints aside, there's one other issue that I'd like to ask you about Asmus, is there any way that the rooting of the hair at the front of the head could be changed so that the gap between the forehead and the hair is less slightly apparent?

It's a very small deal that probably could be fixed with futzing, but I thought that region of the hairline looked better on the rooted Aragorn head.

I think that neck down, the figure is outstanding, and with the proposed repaint hopefully the head will shine too.

As I said. This is what sprung to my mind this morning. As you look at the post I said I'm starting to *wonder*. Their weird choices in sculpts then to release upgraded ones later doesn't really make sense when you have excellent sculpts of these characters from the get go.

Am I not mistaken that the general consesus on this board was the original GtG sculpt was a home run? Then they went with something else entirely? Why not include both sculpts from the get go?

And alot of the other sculpts may not be what I want or consider good, but I'm not the only one complaining. If you take your blinders off you might notice.
