For the most part, I'm pretty happy with this set. The clothing, as is usual from Asmus, is really nice. The accessories are well done, bodies are tight. The sculpts aren't as bad as the preview shots made them look. I saw them at NY ComicCon and I thought they looked better in person as well. The paint is very well done though, good flesh tones and the eyes and hair are good.

Trying to find some good, working angles to shoot them at. I think Frodo looks pretty good here but I think an even lower angle brings out the likeness more. Sam's in the background OOF here but I don't think he looks as bad as everyone is making it out either.

Great pic, Comatoast!

As far as these figures go, I have yet to come across one that has me thinking, "I've got to throw my Sideshow version on Ebay quickly so that I can pick this one up..."

The only real drawback I'm seeing is with the sculpts. To me, this is THE most important part of a figure. A great sculpt will save a mediocre figure but the inverse is not true, for me. You simply can't "futz" a sculpt. You may be able to pay significantly to get it repainted but if the sculpt is not there, underneath the paint, it just won't be enough.

I'll continue to cheer on Asmus, as they are the only game in town and continue to slowly but surely better their craft. But I have yet to be blown away by any of their figures. Perhaps the Mouth of Sauron has come the closest and I'm still considering picking that one up.

Great shot Comatoast! Excellent posing and lighting!

I really love that Hobbit hand with the splayed fingers. (The Missus calls it their "High-Five Hand".) It's great for dramatic poses and is a nice change from the usual gripping or relaxed options. I believe all the Hobbits come with one. But if I'm remembering correctly, it only comes as a left hand. It'd be cool if they included a right one, too.

"Those eyebrows - too curvey! I want to be able to use them as a ruler - they should be like two caterpillars in rigor mortis - try again!"

Great pic though Comatoast, very atmospheric :clap

Thanks dudes (I assume)! Yeah definetely warming up to them and looking forward to shooting more with them and Gandalf (and Merry, Pippen, and a Nazgul if I can find/afford it).

BTW, Wor-Gar, how does the 1/4 Neca Gollum work with these guys? Is it passible size-wise if it's not right next to them?

Onesixshooter killing it as always! Fantastic photo!

Awesome shot Comatoast.

Yeah, I agree they aren't as bad as they are made out to be.

Holy **** those are awesome pics!! Definitely shows the figures in the best way that I've seen so far!

Great picture indeed. I have my Neca Gollum posed next to Gandalf. He looks a little out of scale there but next too a hobbit it would be too noticable I think... (I posted a picture in the GtG thread.)

Unfortunately I don't have any Asmus hobbits. I'm guessing they are smaller than Sideshows.

Gollum works well enough when crouched next to the SS hobbits. But he's clearly too tall. But the Neca has such great expressions on both Gollum and Sméagol he could work as a standalone if need be.

Gotcha. Might get away with in the background or partially hidden then I'm thinking. Has Asmus mentioned anything about him?

The Neca Gollum and Smeagol look great to me - but I've held off buying either of them because surely, surely Asmus must have plans (with switch-out sculpts hint hint)

I agree with Wor-Gar though, the 1/4 Gollum (or Smeagol) would be a great stand-alone piece.

I don't remember anything specific. The craggy nature of Asmus sculpts would suit Gollum... but its the body that will be a big problem for Asmus and I don't see them tackling him any time soon.

Absolutely worth getting either or both if the price is right. I love both pieces; Gollum was in the case and the "oh no" Sméagol was at my desk for probably two years since I got him.

Honestly, it's my biggest pet peeve on the Fellowhship so far and the main reason I haven't gotten the Hobbits. The likeness aren't perfect on them, but they are recognizable enough for me that I would have been in on all of them if not for this.
