Asmus did a stellar job on the clothes.

If they were updated head sculpts I'd snatch these up in a heart beat.

Double you on these points. I was planning to buy this 2 pack, but likeness problems stopped me to hit the button.
Really hope they will have the Mount Doom or something other option of these characters (with updated sculpts). Just not ready to pay at least 300$ more to upgrade these with custom sculpts.

Alternate facts!

Not 10+ years. Only just getting on 9 now.

And Asmus 2-pack was $200, so each hobbit is $100... and Sideshow's were $70 each... so you're incorrect on that too.

Thanks for the correction. I thought Sam was the last figure to come out in 2006.

Maybe you can put Sam and Frodo with sacks on their head, and perform the movie portion when they were both under Faramir's care. The body size is perfect, but the head sculpts could certainly use a bit of tinkering. I' be open if Asmus could re-do the head sculpts on these.

Seems there's a long list of head re-dos already on Asmus' list from fans (er... customers).

I see the problems with the Asmus sculpts but I also see the problems with the only other option, Sideshow. Neither captures the characters very well. I actually prefer the Asmus Frodo to the Sideshow. With Sam, both SS and Asmus have problems that are hard to overlook.

I'm sure though, the actual in-hand size of the heads minimizes the problems on the shelf as opposed to these large close-up photos.

I don't like that glue on the hoods though. That's a big no-no. The whole point of articulated, clothed 1/6th figures is to be able to change their looks. Glue doesn't facilitate that.

Whatever they cost, I would happily have paid a bit more for better sculpts. I REALLY appreciate that Asmus is trying to keep prices down, but if charging a few bucks more would have given them more time or flexibility with the art direction of the heads, I would have been all for it.

But then again, who's to say more money would have fixed the issue to everyone's satisfaction. We just don't (and likely won't) know why certain decisions were made. It could simply have been an issue of individual aesthetics. The people making the decisions may just disagree with us. If coming to these boards over the last decade has taught me anything it's that everybody sees these things differently. Which, I suppose, is the collector's eternal conundrum.

Either way, I'm getting this set. Maybe they'll offer some upgraded heads down the line. Maybe I'll take an expensive dip in the custom pool. Either way, I'm thrilled they're still steaming ahead in Middle Earth. I may sometimes disagree with their aesthetics, but I can't fault their intentions.

Finally decided to go ahead with getting the Asmus Frodo&Sam to replace my old Sideshow figures, despite that I cannot unsee the Chris Farley head on Sam. I think it was the side-by-side comparison pix - thanks, thanks a lot jankatana :lol.

No worries mate [emoji106] Gotta say i like Sam best for whatever reason, Merry the least.

Man, the accessories look great, but they are so tough to attach! Having a hard time getting Sams pans on the leather string on his backpack and already broke the belt for sting!
