Another quick pic. Watching FOTR right now. Can't wait to complete the Fellowship! Merry and Pippin not shown.

Looks great! I wish I had this!
The Asmus sculpt isn't to my liking. I've put him on top of my detolf so facial details aren't as noticeable. I might have to keep my eye out on eBay.

Where do you guys get the hairs for the beard? I might try to customize the head sculpt for myself...looks much more real

they will release the original prototype gandal the grey head with sculped beard and hair...

Okay, sorry for my confusion I'm pretty new to collection 1/6 figures. After reading the last few pages I thought people prefer "real" hair instead of the beard Gandalf has now. So whats the difference to this new sculpted hair head? That everything is sculpted instead of just the beard?

I thought people here prefer it the other way around and everything real.

A lot of collectors prefer sculpted hair, as the figures look to them less like 'dolls'. But this is one of those figures I think that is enhanced by well-applied 'real' hair. I think some of the customs posted in this thread look great.

I'd have preferred the whole stock head to have been real hair, personally - or entirely sculpted, in the case of the early prototype - but the half-half Asmus delivered is the third-best option I think.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense now.

Hmm, so I have to figure out what I would prefer personally before buying this figure.

It's the best Gandalf available, if you like the character it's worth picking up.

While I'm a fan of LotR in general, I just need a generic wizard - more than the character of "Gandalf". I wanna built a custom Merlin for my Knight collection for now
