im surprised there isnt more complaints here, facebook doesnt seem to be happy. a lot of complaints about the sculpt, hair and posts about some molecule 8 sculpt. anyone seen or heard about that one?

I just made a thread about it.

Definitely picking this up. The sculpt is....decent. Something is a wee bit off but again all of their sculpts have been. Can't and won't expect any different with any other release. Will be adding real hair to this guy though.

Oh and regular for me. I'd have no use for that "luxury" base. If it had been a Mines of Moria stairway or something I'd have jumped on that. A floating Cave Troll does nothing for me.

yeah i mean it looks nice but i dont know how much i really care about it. it reminds me of the black suit spiderman, cool base but doesnt do much for me for display purposes.

Hmm not sure where Orlando Bloom disappeared to from that original sculpt...but that luxury base looks freaking incredible! The paint job and hair (at the back) still need work but all in all I think he looks good and I'll get him and hope it looks even better in hand.

I ordered the lux. I'm not crazy happy about it, but it looks way better than my SS one.

I think it's mostly the paint that's causing a few issues. The face is flushed in a few places and death-pale in others. It's still the Vimal sculpt.

Agreed about the hair - that seam is pretty ugly.

But apart from that, the rest of the figure looks really damn good and overall this looks to be a strong effort from Asmus.

Asmus has a while to improve on the hair seam, it is a prototype after all. I went with the lux not because I will display legolas that way but just because the base looks awesome for $50 and it would be useful for pictures. It's great that Asmus gives the option for no lux base for those that don't need it

Don't think you're going to be seeing any changes. Asmus has been releasing their most recent figures within months of the pre-orders. That means they're at the production phase. Asmus said they wanted to cut down on the time from show to go. No more tweaks after critiques.

It was said it is not original sculpt, it was modified. I am not sure what takes away the wow effect the mold had. Yeah, it is probably some details of paint. It seems sculpt is actually good.
Is it me, or thing are slightly getting more expensive? We got from 175 usd for Eowin and Grishnakh (with some nice add-ons like a spear) to 200 usd for GtG (with cool stand, quite some accessories and even pre-order option for 3 staffs), and now no special feature for basic 200 usd release (I understand that there is a lux one with a very cool Troll-head stand for 250 usd, but it is a special edition one).

Agreed prices are definitely creeping up, plus no build an orc parts, I guess that's done

well they need to do something with that sculpt, its kind of a mess as is.

man this looks really cool! Might seem strange but out of all the things, I'm really happy they got the belt and chest strap right.

Seems to be common with Asmus. Bait and switch. They had a beautiful Gandalf the Grey sculpt before switching it to what we got and the WIP Frodo sculpt was miles above what we got as well. Not sure why these things get changed especially when the others were much better.

I don't really understand the 'bait and switch' comments. Its not like Sideshow where they take preorder deposits based on pictures that are far better looking than the actual product most of the time. I could understand someone saying this if it cost them. The only cost here that's lost is expectation. And if you've been watching Asmus long enough you should know better by now.

Yeah totally, how is this bait and switch? If you don't like the look of it but buy it then you have baited and switched yourself. I am very much looking forward to this figure

Had the same thoughts. It puzzles me how they never produced such a wonderful sculpts as a final product. :(

If they've shown us something that's met with overwhelming positivity and asked for feedback (like in the case of the original Gandalf sculpt) and then they switch it out just before pre-order, then that's totally a bait and switch. Money doesn't have to pass hands for it to be a bait and switch (and that stage of the figure process wasn't what Rzeznikk was talking about). A bait and switch is subversion of expectation. :lol Asmus are pretty consistent from PO pics to release when it comes to the sculpts, as consistent as is seen in this hobby, really.

I think for someone to have been baited and switched one party has to lose out and the other gains. If the preorder pics accurately display what you will receive (and In hand is usually better with Asmus) then no harm no foul
