If they've shown us something that's met with overwhelming positivity and asked for feedback (like in the case of the original Gandalf sculpt) and then they switch it out just before pre-order, then that's totally a bait and switch. Money doesn't have to pass hands for it to be a bait and switch (and that stage of the figure process wasn't what Rzeznikk was talking about). A bait and switch is subversion of expectation.

But to be 'baited and switched' you actually have to "take the bait" -- which isn't offered when they show those great renders or sculpts. As another fishing term implies, you have to be 'hooked'.

I think for someone to have been baited and switched one party has to lose out and the other gains. If the preorder pics accurately display what you will receive (and In hand is usually better with Asmus) then no harm no foul

Exactly.

This change has 'cost' you nothing.

And again, how many times has this happened with Asmus? So if someone still thinks they're getting baited and switched at this point then someone is not paying attention.

I think some people here don't actually understand what a "bait and switch" is.

Either that, or they're confusing "bait and switch" with "excitement and letdown".

Yeah, calling it a "bait and switch" isn't really fair.

Have I been disappointed and confused by some of their production choices? You bet.

But have they ever tricked me into giving them money for a product that was substantially different in-hand than the pictures they showed when orders went live? Nope. Never. Not even a little.

And I say that as someone who has purchased every single figure in this line.

I know this is entirely subjective, but I've found that most of their figures actually end up looking a little better in-hand than they do in the pre-order pictures. (The only exception that comes to mind is Eowyn. I thought she looked a bit worse.)

Now, I'm not saying you're not allowed to be disappointed. Of course you can. Hell, I've been disappointed by several of the figures in this line. But all that happens well before any money changes hands.

Do they occasionally make some frustrating and downright baffling decisions along the way before they get to the full proto stage? Absolutely. But with Asmus, once they get to that final proto -- the one they show us pics of before they open it up for orders -- that's pretty much the figure you're going to get. There's no baiting or switching going on there.

Just my two cents.

I think Legy looks good, though not perfect and a bit too much red on the face.....but overall its cool.

Its odd, of all the figures with hair I thought for sure this one would have real hair like his father. But no. Very odd.

I can't say I like the sculpted hair that has to rest on his shoulders to look right. Seems like it will definitely limit poses.

[emoji38] Asmus are pretty consistent from PO pics to release when it comes to the sculpts, as consistent as is seen in this hobby, really.
Exactly.

Of course Asmus isn't forcing anyone to buy what they have switched, but let's be real, do you see ANY other option at this point in the hobby?
No. Nope. Nothing. Ziltch.

So what pisses me off is we see this excellent. And I mean absolutely home run sculpts of Gandalf. Frodo etc and then preorder goes up and WHY? I'm calling that a bait and switch. I don't care if I haven't given Asmus any money or not at that point. But if I want a full Fellowship I kinda have to swallow it don't I?

Well you don't have too.....you could just not get any and decide to wait and hope one day someone makes the fellowship that meets your expectations. I'm happy with my Asmus fellowship in progress and very excited to have the rest of the gang coming soonish hopefully.

Lol you're funny. Nope. It's a miracle Asmus is even doing the full Fellowship. I have better luck getting these and picking up better custom headsculpts if they are done. Which from the sounds of it are more likely than seeing another 1:6 get this license and run with it.
I do applaud Asmus for doing that at least. Without them we wouldn't have any of these figures. It's just disappointing that if your there doing it. Let's do it right. And what's even more frustrating is we had amazing sculpts shown but then they do the switch. Doesn't make any sense at all.

Yeah, I'm bummed about the hair. Exactly what I hoped they would not do. His face looks decent, especially from the more profile pics but it isn't the home run I was hoping for after how well Thranduil turned out.

I will most likely order one but debating about the deluxe. The troll head looks well done but I really wish they had just done a 1/6th scale figure of it, I don't think it works well on a shelf with the rest of the group... a disembodied head in the middle of everyone else on stands or stone platforms.

I wish they would have went with a base that would fit more with Aragorn's, since I'll want to display the Three Hunters together.

I'd actually like to see some more LotR-specific environmental bases in general (maybe sold on their own, not with a figure). I'd also love to see more switch-out peg-feet so figures can be posed without stands. Still think that's a great idea.

The bases are part of what makes this line unique. I personally would love to see Gimli come with Bali's tomb. I'd love to have him standing on it with his axes in both hands.

That would go excellently with Legolas's base too.
