Marvel are doing that too often^ the defeat of the primary villain by humorous means. It's becoming a bit predictable.

The last thing Ultron will see.

I didn't mind it, because the film is almost a comedy, but I hope they don't take away the infinity gauntlet from Thanos so easily.

They're going to swap out the Infinity Gems with hard candy.

I also rank ASM 2 over Spider-Man 3. I put Spider-Man 3 dead last among the Spidey films. As I think about it, there's only one Spider-Man film I enjoy all that much, and it's the second one. Sad, considering that he's one of the best comic characters in existence.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised. It's classic Whedon humour. Build up the threat, make it all very ominous and doom-speaky......comedy dispatch of villain, levity, audiences lol. It used to be a new and funny but they're wearing it down.

I'm ashamed to say (as a native New Yorker) that I have never read Spidey comics and have enjoyed, to varying degrees, all of the movies.

As a fan - where would you recommend I start with the comics? And, sorry to be so needy, could you recommend something currently available (like an Amazon link)?

Legit request. :lecture

Off the topic you guys have been on, since I just watched both trailers again for the hundreth time... I feel like Cap is actually able to lift Thor's hammer but decided to spare the mighty Avenger's ego.

Maybe at some point in the movie he actually lifts Mjolnir in battle like he has in the comics.

Pulling a theory out right out of my ass but dammit, May can't come soon enough.

This is the currently running series, which I am quite enjoying.

I've been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and he uses this pretty often in that show, and he also did it in Firefly. He loves to have the bad guy giving an ominous speech at the end, "you'll never be able to rest, because I will pursue you to the ends of the earth!" etc., then bad guy gets killed in comedic fashion :D I love it, and I hope it happens to Ultron!

I would start at the beginning. Folks may assume that the older stuff is more quaint and less sophisticated than more modern comics, and that's true to some extent, but just because they weren't "dark and gritty" doesn't mean they weren't smart, fun, and good. The themes are usually just as relevant today as they were in the early '60s. Marvel's stuff from Stan Lee in the early days was quite good, and Spider-Man was probably the best of the bunch, followed by Fantastic Four IMO. Ditko's art was also really nice to look at.

I would go for this if you can find a version for $20 or less:

Amazon.com: Amazing Spider-Man, Vol. 1 (Marvel Masterworks) eBook: Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko: Kindle Store

The period following Ditko's run was still written by Lee for awhile, but drawn by John Romita, who probably developed the most definitive Spidey in my eyes. If you don't want to go through the entire story of Spider-Man, this looks like it is a nice overview of his work:

Amazon.com: Spider-Man: Visionaries (Marvel Visionaries) (9780785107941): Stan Lee, John Romita: Books

A lot of folks think of this as one of the best Spidey stories out there, and it is great, but very dark (and of course, you're familiar with the writer ;) ). Art by iconic GI Joe cover artist Mike Zeck:

Amazon.com: Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt (9780785134503): J. M. DeMatteis, Mike Zeck: Books

Here is another iconic, extremely dark, more modern Spider-Man story:

Spider-Man: The Death of Jean DeWolff: Peter David, Rich Buckler, Sal Buscema: 9780785167143: Amazon.com: Books

It happened with TWO of them.

I think this movie won't be leaving people laughing...
