That's what confuses me, I know his resume is solid on paper, but everything I've seen of his is just cringeworthy to me.

If you consider the first Toy Story "cringeworthy", then you really should just stick with Bryan Singer stuff.

You don't like his humour, it would seem to me. All of his stuff is very humour-based and even when it's being serious characters speak in a very distinctly Whedon way. This film is definitely not going to change your mind by the looks of it.

It's not really the humor that's my issue, it's the fact that he's making this huge epic summer blockbuster, and somehow makes it feel like a high budget television show. From the dialogue, to the cinematography, to the constant humor, everything just looks and sounds real cheap.

Yeah it was all over the place, if you happen to like games you were the devil according to those sites. It was ridiculous how much hate gamers were getting.
