Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)
And I was bummed as hell to see them both go.
But it was different from watching what they did to Luke and Han.
This WAS Tony's movie. They didn't bring him in as a cameo just do die. He completed his arc...he reconciled with his father, he finally got over his ego and discovered true love, he had a wonderful little girl....and through it all, he remained a selfless hero that saved the universe. To paraphrase Frank Miller's Batman, "This is a good death."
I''m saddened, but not upset.
What they did to Han was just plain repulsive in my opinion. Bring him back to impale him on a lightsaber by his OWN son and then have his dying/lifeless body tossed into a bottomless abyss that will be blown up 5 minutes later. Talk about over kill.
Killing Black Widow really felt like a necessary part of the story, the way it was written. Killing Tony did not, but they went ahead with it and I'll get over it.
But what they did to Han and Luke in SW will forever be unforgivable to me. And I hope in 20 years people are still talking about IW/EG and that the SW experiment will just be remembered as a sad failed footnote in cinematic greed.
Or it could simply be the actors themselves no longer want to play the role. Downey himself said that there's a limit to how long he thinks he should play the character due to his age. Evans also talked about wanting to do other projects after.
Money could be a factor but I doubt that was the only or even the main factor.
