Last set of pics I have. I got real lax from here about documenting my progress.

Nacel wire channels filled and painted, and nacels hooked up and sealed up. Notice, the aztec pattern paint chart underneath.

Just an amazing process to see... that shuttle bay is particularly mind blowing; sooooo tiny :lol

BTW, I thought people usually used stencils for the aztech pattern... or at least I thought I saw someone offering them for the TMP Enterprise.

I've seen people use decals on some, and you can buy stencils, but I chose to hand paint for a number of reasons. One big reason was the cost of this model was already approaching $300 when I was buying mod supplies. Another significant issues, as someone said earlier, the detail on the outer hull of the ship is raised, and pretty heavy. Decals would not stick at all, and stencils would have a similar issue with paint bleeding from the raised details. Plus, I felt like it was more of an accomplishment to hand paint them. I do love decals, one of my favorite parts of finishing a model, but something about them for this seemed like the easy way out.

Hi, fantastic looking modle, just wondering what sort of scale is that thing, it looks huge, great job on it, could you photograph it next to some figure so we can see the size of it, CHEERS

It's 1/1400 scale. I'm not where I can get a picture of it, but this one should give an idea. Notice the green mat underneath the model has one inch squares on it.

Thanks for posting your WIP pics Avenger, and props for getting back on the horse so soon. When the kids are older and we've upsized I'd love to tackle a model. I never had the patience when I was younger, but now it really appeals.

Beautiful model and amazing work!
I remember seeing the "flying" models once on youtube, might have to look them up again.

Update:

My replacement flashers aren't in yet, so this weekend it's time to work on the base. I've made the wood frame, and have filled in the nail holes and have started to put a sand sealant on it so I get a nice shiny, plasticy look when I paint it black.

This is my first ever reveal of the acrylic sheet that will be inset into the base frame. This is a bad picture cause I had to hold it up to the light while trying to take the picture. I'm going to leave it bad though, so you have something to look forward to when it's done and I'm taking completed shots.

I designed a Star Trek themed plaque and lighting control panel that I sent off to a guy that owns an engraving tool. He used my design, and his engraver to cut out the film on the plastic sheet, leaving just the areas I wanted to show. He painted the back black and pulled off the film that was left. He then, added colored transparent acrylic behind the exposed areas, to give us the blue color. This thing rocks, and will look great when it's done, with LED backlighting.

Matt does commission work over his website https://laserfirecreations.com/. He can engrave plastic, metal, glass stone, etc. He does amazing work, including stands for stuff like the HGC Aliens Pulse Rifle, which he shows on his site. Pretty much anything you can dream up. As many customizers as we have here, I expect many of you will want to get in touch with him. He's an amazing guy. Mods, I hope it's okay to post his site. I do so cause I know he provides a service people viewing this may want, and it's a unique service that is not easy to find from my experience. But, if that's not cool, I'll be happy to remove it.

Thanks. :)

Yeah, above those words are the light toggles. The engines and interior window lights can be turned on separately. The acrylic is shiny on top, so it gives it that LCARS (Star Trek ship control panel) look, except for the switches that is. But, touch sensitive controls, if you can even find them, were not going to be in budget.

:horror OhMyGOD
I so wish I could own or make something like this... amazing work!!!!:clap
I miss the days of TNG :( better times

I actually have to live with my Diamond "D" for now and not sure if i ever will touch my 1:1400 AMT lighted model which I found in some old modelshop. Didn't even open it so but I assume the ERT model you have is more accurate.....
again you should be proud of yourself :clap:clap
lucky you did the D as it to me is the classic TNG Mothership

AMT and ERTL merged I think. It may just be AMT these days. If yours is newer, it might make for a better build than what I have. Mine is a repurposed fiber optics model kit from the 90's.

I miss TNG too. Not as hip on the new movie as most are. But, things change in order to stay around. :dunno
