'Victor' aka 'DarthKostis'
The ONLY way this COULD have worked is if RDJ comes back as Tony Stark for most of the film and is revealed to be a shapeshifted Doom in the final act who used the heroes love/hope for Tony's return to enact his scheme - he outsmarts the heroes and achieves his goals entirely, kills quite a few major characters permanently while wearing the face of someone they trust/respect, and exits the film with style and the actor playing Victor Von Doom's true appearance being revealed when he drops his shapeshifted/glamoured disguise.
That would make sense, give RDJ a chance to play the villain, been a badass villain intro and twist, and a devastating cliffhanger.
BUT announcing RDJ in this way and revealing him AS DOOM makes any surprise or suspense or twist or clever writing move impossible.
So either its going to be:
- a suprise reveal for the characters but not the audience - which wouldn't be very satisfying
- not a suprise at all and they know he's "Doom" who just happens to look like Tony - weird choice that raises a lot of questions and forever ties an iconic villain into an odd relationship with Tony Stark and his relationships
- he is an actual evil Tony Stark variant - in which case he isn't really Doom and we are once again robbed of an actual decent Doom portrayal, likely to be given some bull "oh, dont worry he isn't the REAL Doom" Mandarin-style "twist"/retcon.
By God, I am not one for nerd-rage - I really am not, but I HATE this choice.
I can only imagine that it story-wise must have something to do with Stark or one of his ancestors (or descendants) but even so...still seems like a dumb, Feige-twisto-changeo just to subvert what the fans know. I don't think there's any redeeming aspect to RDJ's casting here - even if it ties into what I said but still...c'mon. This is why I'm generally out on MCU these days in some cases. Is it tho? I mean we don’t know. I mean. I love rdj but like this seems desperate and just like… yea.
So many options for doom. Also I sincerely hope this is t a variant. This multiverse crap is kinda destroying things cause now it’s like everyone and anyone can be the character. Screw 60 plus years of history. Let’s say multiverse and call it a day.
See when I complained about Harry Osborn being venom . Everyone cried “ it’s a different universe brah!” Now that we opened Pandora’s box we are gonna see a lot more of this character being that character and so on .
I wished so hard for that garbage character/actor to fail that I might actually have, single-handedly, summoned this whole MCU upheaval...A damn shame that we'll never see whatever masterpiece this scene was building up to.

I guess HE (not Thanos) is...inevitable. Maybe all this has something to do with him snapping with the Infinity Gauntlet...???
Yeah, they really didn't have a good roadmap. The pandemic killed any momentum they had from Endgame and SM:FFH, and while Shang-Chi was a fun movie it was never going to be a huge success. Eternals was a colossal mistake, as was the dumb decision to NOT recast T'Challa for BP2. And then after losing T'Challa they had Wanda go dark in DSMOM, taking another popular Avenger off the board. They followed that up by forgetting to keep Taika Waititi on a leash, leaving us with the Thor L&T comedy review. They couldn't have predicted the Jonathan Majors fiasco but then his Kang was being viewed by many as a poor man's Doom anyway, so being able to pivot away from his story line may prove to be a blessing. I have no idea what they're thinking with this RDJ Doom casting but hopefully there's some method to the madness lol.Marvel really went down the drain after their Endgame...I dont think any amount of snapping can help them recover from that.
Releases after EG was lackluster, except maybe for Spiderman and Wolverine, but I give those IPs a little headroom because I grew up with them, lol.
*Shrug*. Maybe I shouldn't, but I'll assume both RDJ and the Russos are intelligent enough to know there'd be backlash. I'll assume RDJ has enough self respect as an actor, and experience, to know what he can and can't do effectively.Yeah, they really didn't have a good roadmap. Jackman = Great WolverinePeople seem thrilled that Hugh Jackman came back yet again to play Wolverine.
People hate that RDJ came back. Is it just because he's coming back to play Dr Doom, not Iron Man?
Would it be better if RDJ came back to play Iron Man, or would nothing make people happy at this point because it's more fun to make fun of Marvel/Disney?
The Russos said that RDJ wasn't interested in CW until he found out that he basically got to be the villain so I wonder if this was the only way they could get him to say yes. So in other words both greedy RDJ and desperate Marvel, lol.Jackman = Great Wolverine
RDJ = Great Stark
Allow another actor to go make a great Victor Von Doom!
RDJ as Doom at best comes off as him being greedy, at worst desperation by Marvel.
