And the people cheered liked hungry seals when RDJ took off the mask.

Be funny if there was just dead silence. And then one lone voice eked out: ...but he's Iron Man.
Just watch that clip. Proves his ego is even bigger than the paychecks he gets from Disney. His head won't fit under the hood. He's standing there like he's the second coming and the savior of the MCU. People would've been throwing roses at his feet if they had them.

The crowd cheered just as loudly when they unveiled Ian McDiarmid returning as Palpatine in TROS. Like he too would save Star Wars.

How'd that work out? :rotfl

Fans need to stop enabling and cheering.

They should be shouting: PROVE IT!
That'd be funny if Joe Russo was the one who shouted prove it because he assumed he'd be drowned out by the cheering but in reality everyone else was dead silent.

I would have settled for a single “No seriously, who’s REALLY playing Doom?” :lol Massive booing would have also been acceptable.

I think they would have cheered no matter who took off the mask. SDCC is full of fare weather fans. I don't mean that in a negative way. It just has become that in the last several years.
Yeah just like the clip of all the goofballs cheering the "Yes, yes!" Acolyte lady at SW Celebration.

Even in the event that RDJ does a great job as Doom I still won't be able to help feeling like it was a wasted opportunity to give another talented actor the spotlight.

Even if he's just a Doom variant, what are the chances we're ever gonna see another version of Doom again in the MCU after Doomsday and Secret Wars? Pretty low I'd say.

Last several??

I stopped going to NYCC looong ago. I'd say shortly after the MCU debated and introduced the normies and this stuff went away from passionate fans and became the pop culture fad. So many reasons for no longer enjoying the experience.
  • Lines getting longer and longer
  • Having to wait for ridiculous times in line to attend panels
  • Used to be able to get great deals on stuff, then slowly vendors were trying to sell things for way more than you could get it most places online. And if tried to haggle they'd even tell you some new "fan" would buy it full pop cause they are clueless.
  • More and more cosplayers (mostly hot chicks just there to show off themselves to the "nerds" who didn't even know much about who they were actually dressed as). Just exhibitionists who like attention.
  • The casual normies walking around oblivious to most of the things around them that should actually be common knowledge and mainstream to the majority of attendees.
One year I walked by a table on the floor and Stan Lee was just sitting there chatting with the guy, and most people were walking by and not even giving him a second glance!! Imagine that..

It started to feel like being a resident in a popular resort town and watching all the tourists gawk at stuff and take pictures of things that had no meaning or were extremely common.

I miss the ol' days.... :(

I was being kind. The family and I stopped going to SDCC a long, long, time ago. We stopped going when the tickets reached a $100. Hell, we were bummed when they jumped from $25 to $50. Preview night was fun. Only way to get in was to do all 4 days.
Having to wait in line the whole day just to get into a panel seemed ridiculous. When my oldest daughter was little we used to hop from panel to panel with no trouble. It's one of her fondest memories. Trying to figure out which we could hit once one was done.
