That's what I've been thinking as well. Admittedly, I haven't seen it in person, so I can only go by the pics that you and others have posted, but I honestly don't see what the problem is that some people are having with the piece. The scale looks as good as it can to me, the whip around Gandalf's ankle and his hand on the horn are necessary to tether him to the piece (unless someone knows of a reliable way to suspend him in mid air ;)).

I like the piece, and I'm glad I have it on order.

They could have him still holding the horn. They do need to remove the fire wip from his ankle it looks like it's going up his backside in some angles

There are things with this piece that I can see bother people depending on what they like in their Dio's but I'm totally fine with it. GTG I can see maybe looking a little like the GG maquette but again it will be hard to get a total realistic likeness in this scale. In the end this piece is really quite well done and I'm glad I have it coming.

Now that was all too FUNNY!!!!:rotfl

That 1 part does make it look like a comic book item, goofy, and Gandalfs look, not sure about that but it will be so tiny who will care. I just wish SS would quit riding on Wetas tail and create something that they have not done, I mean 3 Rogs's, why not put something out that Weta did not do. With such a HUGE story why keep repeating and repeating...:sick
Why not a Troll Dio, Black Gate Dio, Fellowship Dio, something PLEASE
And @ $300, I believe that most will wait and get it on the secondary market for cheaper as it will be there.... To those who get it good luck and enjoy it, I will wait and see if it turns out for the better, I am hoping here...

Three balrogs  Unless my math is off I only count two, the dio.[ which was the overwhelming choice when SS gave us the chance to vote] and the LSB [something SSW never did]. And didn't SSW pretty well do multiples of everything [statues /busts] as well?

You're complaining about too many balrogs and doing something SSW hasn't done, then you mention doing a cave troll dio.? After SSW did four CT maquette's, two statues and a bust. And SS already having done a LSB?

Give it up, woodsy. Some people aren't interested in rational discussion, just in stirring the pot for their own pleasure.

Back on topic, I guess I can take the word of people who have seen the piece that it may have a few problem areas, but overall I am still impressed with it. Would I have preferred the scene on the bridge? Of course, but this one is almost as impressive.

Sorry to bother you Mr Rational....:rotfl:rolleyes:
I recall you can stir with the best of them, stirring, naw I leave that to you:rolleyes:

Woodsy, Sorry but with this one it will be 3 Rog statues...Dio...
Come now, a Fellowship Dio would be way hot man....;) I guess I am not pleased with the choice of the pose, I agree that the bridge would have been 1,000,000 time better but this is what we are given, I will be passing on this one and hoping for something different....:banghead

I actually saw the piece at SDCC & Sideshow really got Ian McKellan's face down despite the small size of the Gandalf figure stabbing the Balrog.

This is one BIG sad pass for me...

Let me preface the following by stating that I have this piece pre-ordered.

But...

Gandalf indeed looks "cartoony" to me. It almost appears as an after-thought. With the Balrog being incredibly detailed, Gandalf stands out negatively. He just doesn't look as detailed.

The scale / size issue is moot. Excellent detailing can be done even at this small scale. Just look at some of the 1/35 scale or even 1/48 scaled military plastic model figures as an example. Verlinden comes to mind. Keep in mind that in 1/35 scale, the head of a figure is smaller than a pea.

yeah Gandalf looks like an undetailed lead figure...Still an awesome sculpt on the baal Rog.

Fly, look what you've done to me. Now when real bugs actually crawl on my monitor, I just ignore them until I realize I'm not reading one of your posts!

He may slightly look cartoony but its nothing that detracts from the peace as you're trying to make it sound like. Actually, I was quite pleased overall how GTG came out looking especially his face. The scale size is not moot. I guess it is if you're trying to convince yourself to cancel or not like it. There is only so much detail you can get and those type of pieces and is far less detailed than this guy.

That I'm gonna pass on it.

I LOVE the 'Rog.
But Gandalf just bugs me way too much. Every time I inspected it at Con, all I saw was the whip goosing him up his cartoony a$$.

I'm with Sam, get the LSB instead -- and it's GC eligible.
