I ordered the dio. I think it looks pretty good. I have the LSB also and it is definately an underrated piece....It is an awesome piece, you can't go wrong with it. :D

hello, newbie here. i already have a couple of balrogs, and i am looking at this one also, but what does LSB stand for? i'm sure i'll feel stupid when i see the answer. lol

LSB is also similar to LSD, a drug that causes you to see FlyAndFight's creepy crawly signature insects skittering all over your flesh.

ON TOPIC: I didn't order the new diorama.

He may slightly look cartoony but its nothing that detracts from the peace as you're trying to make it sound like. Actually, I was quite pleased overall how GTG came out looking especially his face. The scale size is not moot. I guess it is if you're trying to convince yourself to cancel or not like it. There is only so much detail you can get and those type of pieces and is far less detailed than this guy.

Josh, just sharing my own personal opinion. Not trying to convince myself on cancelling or not. To me, the Gandalf sculpt is not as well sculpted or detailed as the Balrog and thus, in my opinion, detracts from the piece.

As for saying that 1/35 scaled pieces are less detailed than this Gandalf, you really don't know what you are talking about.

Here's the size of a typical 1/35 scaled figure:

Here's one example, which I tried to find that would fit within a fantasy looking genre:

Here's Gandalf from you pic:

I didn't say you weren't trying to share your 2 cents. That doesn't mean the other isn't true. Both pieces are sculpted pretty well.

No, I do know what I'm talking about thanks though.

GTG is pretty detailed. As detailed as that piece there at least from what I saw with the naked eye. I admit I didn't do as well with taking shots of this piece so some is lost.

So you believe that GtG and the 1/35th scaled figure that I posted are comparable in detailing?:confused::confused:

I would find the situation comparable to the SS/Weta Witchking on Fellbeast statue, where the fellbeast looks great while the witchking detail is not as crisp.

I'm saying that when you get to look at him that he's pretty darn detailed. Maybe not to that exact figure but other figures of the same size yes he's as good.

I don't want to butt my nose in here, but honestly the Gandalf reminds me most of an AOME figure; if you can remember those.

The face and the sword are what bothers me most, and Josh; your picture is quite representative of what I/we saw in person - don't sell yourself short.

Josh, I'm not saying that Gandalf is not detailed. What I'm saying is that he's lacking in detail compared to the Balrog. It was this issue that affects the general piece. Many others have voiced similar thoughts.

I also said that Gandalf's size should not be a factor in the lack of detailing and explained that similar scaled figures have been done with amazing detailing levels. I even provided an example.

Gandalf is certainly not an unrefined blob of polystone. BUT it's also not an amazing sculpt that compliments the detailing found in the Balrog. Even you admitted that it "...looked a bit cartoony."

Looking a bit cartoony hurts this piece, in my opinion.

Excellent example, Matt. The AOME figures definitely comes to mind.

Josh, your pics were excellent, particularly the shots of the full piece. I cropped out Gandalf from your pic in order to put focus on just Gandalf and not allow the Balrog to influence either way.

Maybe close to those but I guess I thought it was done a little closer to what Fly posted.

He may not be quite as detailed as the Balrog but I think he's done well given the size of the piece. Honestly, though looking at it in person it didn't bother me a bit.

It does. I just think overall its I thought pretty well done. As I stated even the tiny issues I had didn't take away from this piece for me. Its that well done overall.

Thanks to both of you for the kind words on the pics. Its one piece I would like to shoot over again.

I love mine, I am still waiting for the time to faux bronze it though. :banana

Had it, sold it, I'll prefer the dio! I'm not gonna look too closely at GTG. It's his inclusion in the overall piece that I'll appreciate. Something like 'Wow! Cool Balrog statue! And Gandalf's there too! Great!'
