Magazines have long lead times before being printed. They may have had to use the V.1 head because BR Joker's regular head wasn't done yet.

Yup.. but not only that: I hope people understand that big companies also use Photoshop or other photo manipultaion programs too. I see people all the time saying "That's Photoshopped" and then automatically jumping to the conclusion that it's some private individual who did it. That assumption was made in this thread for example. Look at some DVD covers or Movie posters or even magazine ads and you'll see some truly horrible PS at work, and that's "professionally" made. So don't always assume that Photoshop/photo manipulation automatically = someone at home making a joke or pulling a prank. Sometimes it's actually from a company with lazy ass, talentless workers in their art departments.

On a side note...

This is the magazine from where the ad was pulled. Thanks to kenmoo2009 of toy-world. What's interesting is that someone translated the ad and the sculpt is listed as the "smiling headsculpt." I'm not posting these to get everyone worried again....just wanted to show that the ad was an official ad.

The regular joker head looks different than before, hes grinning now.... i dont like that... i really hope they didnt change it the other one was perfect.

Here is what I'm thinking happened

1. Hot Toys wanted to release the BR version but didn't want to do a new headsculpt. They wanted to repaint the head into a "smiling version" (like they did with their battle-damaged P2, Predalien, ED-209 No sculpting just paint work)

2. Hot Toys had to finalize the advertisement a few months ahead of time to meet the dealine of the magazine.

3. Hot Toy realizes that people were not satisfied with the ver. 1 head and that a lot of people would just skip the BR Joker.

4. Finally they decide to resculpt the head.

5. End product--> the official pics they have on their website.

So I applaud Hot Toys for not cheapening out and giving us a repaint of ver. 1 and calling it the "smiling version." That is if my hypothesis is right in the first place :lol

If Hot Toys really wanted to do a smiling/laughing version they should've went with an expression the Joker really had in the movie.

You're wasting your time Darren, I tried to throw out those arguments before.

Wow! The all-knowing Maulfan has spoken again. Relax dude......I'm not writing a thesis statement or anything. It probably is wrong...and the thing is we probably will never find out what happened. Chill out, no need to refute everything you see on this board.

Easy guys we're just talking about a figure here. No big deal. Really.

Let's just wait and see what happens.

I read in your other post showing the magazine where the ad originated from, that the text translates to "Smiling Version". And again in the above quoted post from you.

For me, based off that ad (how the pics are lined up) I took the slicked back head (what it's now being called) to be the "Smiling Version". Not that other head (repainted v.1, old version whatever you wanna call it). The slicked back hair head is front and center and in the majority of the pics in that ad. Its the "centerpiece". So for me, imo THAT head is the "Smiling Version". Even now with the most up to date pics.. the new sculpt is dead serious.. so the slicked back hair head is still the "Smiling Version" because compared to the new sculpt and the v.1 (which has a kinda dumb, slightly open mouth) that head has the most "smile".. even though it's more of a half grin. Realistically HT could have just sold the figure with THAT head, mask, guns, duffle bag and new outfit and people would've still bought it. iunno..

As long as when I get it from Joe it looks like or similar to this:

I'll be satisfied.

Actually the source I took it from (I can't read Japanese) says the specs for the heads are as follows:

1. Smiling version
2. Slicked back hair version

This is where I got it from https://www.ezhobi.net/discuz/viewthread.php?tid=16400&extra=page%3D1&page=54

I have no idea how proficient he is in Japanese.

IGNORE ME! IGNORE ME!!! lol.. well there goes my theory Darren.

:(

hahahahaha.. I clicked on that link and saw a pic of the Joker after too much booze and no sleep:
