Plenty of succesful films have social commentary. The difference is they are done subtley and are built around a strong story. Being beaten over the head with an 'agenda' is what destroys some films, not the actual agenda itself. Although some can't even handle the subtle stuff these days without flipping the table over, and some cry 'woke' even when it isn't. Basically, you can't please everyone.

Quite true. Too many times I see toxic reactions to a film or announcement and they claim it’s “woke”. How? Because the lead is a woman or minority. That’s it. And that’s enough to upset some people.

In the early 00s, some movie CEO said women don’t carry hero or action movies, and pointed to Catwoman, Elektra, and Charlie’s Angels: Full-throttle as examples why. Bear in mind, those movies were terrible, but you never saw them say the failures of John Carter or Lone Ranger were because guys can’t carry movies.

I want a Batgirl film. Batgirl is a big DC heroine. My daughter has Batgirl pajamas. She watches DC Superhero Girls starring Batgirl. There’s a place for her in film, along with so many other heroines.

I hope we’ll get that one day, even if it’s not this day.

I think the problem is a lot of people read these types of announcements as telegraphing where the priorities are for these projects. In some cases, its definitely true that it seems like just making a good story or film goes behind diversity of casting, political or social messaging etc.

That's not always the case though. Unfortunately, we're not really in a "give things a fair shake" kinda zeitgeist.

The Canceled Batgirl Movie's Plot Revealed

That’s probably WB’s whole angle, to turn this pile of dog **** into some kind of cult film and then make a chunk of money back
Apparently they legally can’t do that. Writing it off 100% for taxes means they can’t release it later on revenue-generating platforms or they’d be liable for lawsuits and legal drama.

Scooby-Doo! And Krypto, Too! Animated Film Not Canceled, Trailer Announced

This animated movie was announced as "cancelled" a few months ago due to tax write offs - just like Batgirl - but is now being released because the ongoing writers/actors strikes have halted all productions and, therefore, new content.

Is there hope for Batgirl yet?
Yes, if they can get Scooby to co-star that may still save the movie. :lol

Kidding, though Barbara and Velma teaming up for a good sleuthing mystery would be great.:wink1:

I'm not sure where in the multiverse Batgirl would sit now. Is Keaton dead? Did Barry put things back for him? Is the Batgirl version another version of Keaton?

I think that was just speculation in the case of this cartoon, unlike the Scooby Doo theatrical CGI sequel and Batgirl, which were confirmed to be shelved.
