More 'realistic' though? Superman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Shazam? Errrr.

I think a film can have a sense of realism even if the characters aren't realistic. Look at the Nolan Batman film, it's fantasy and silly...but there's still a sense of realism to the world, the acting, and the technology in which all the silliness takes place.

Maybe in the case of BvS, part of the realism comes from how society, the governments, religious people, and other countries view these powerful beings. There's already a glimpse of that in the BvS trailer. That's something the old Christopher Reeve films ignored. The MCU has also explore that aspect, but maybe not to its full potential. Realistically speaking, if Superman was real...the world would change.

Okay but that's a choice of approach. The quote was like they were suggesting DC is inherently more realistic which it clearly isn't. In fact some of the DC characters are more absurd and ridiculous than anything Marvel has.

Affleck was talking about the film "universe", not necessarily the DC comics, which are rooted in science fiction, fantasy, and mythology, unlike some of the popular Marvel characters.

Affleck shared his thoughts on the differences in the tone of Marvel and DC-based movies.

He said,

It is more mythic, it is more grand in that way, and it is a little more realistic. Just by their nature, these films can’t be as funny or as quick or as glib as Marvel movies.

But I see what you mean because he said by their nature...but I don't necessarily look at it as him talking about the comics. I think he was just talking about the movies they're making.

I translate that to mean, "not as much humor, more serious." Because these movies are all absurd. You can treat a movie with less humor, like the Nolan films by and large, but a giant tank thing jumping off building tops, insane clown guy or steroid injected freak holding a city hostage, man in Bat suit beating up crooks, etc. Just hard to take that very seriously when you really take it all in. These movies aren't Nebraska, Five Easy Pieces, or the Grapes of Wrath.

What about Lord Of the Rings or Distric 9? Those films are as dramatic and emotional as any "serious drama", but if you take it all in, it's about weird monsters, little people, wizards, and magical rings and all kind of silliness. I don't mind less humor in a superhero film, because I do think the MCU over do it at times with the jokes, to the point that even the villains are trying to be funny, but I'm sure the DC films will have humor once all these characters are interacting with each other. They have to. Batman needs to be serious and some of the humor will probably come from how serious he is when he's dealing with a guy like Green Lantern or Flash.

Don't forget microwave emitters, cult of ninja dudes, DNA codex skull thing that is transported into baby Kal-El's genitallia and alien terraforming machines.

That's not even counting WB's older DC comics films. How about Superman turning back time, or Superman in general? A man falling into a vat of chemicals and coming out looking like a clown.

I'm not saying a movie can't be effective in a dramatic sense when it's fundamentally silly. I'm not even saying those movies can't be important! Consider ET, or the Wizard of Oz.

Leave Superman: the Movie out of this, damn you!

You know what I would like to see, a real, realistic movie. Where they film an actual fight between Jai Courtney, and Michael Jai White. Match isn't over until the loser leaves in an ambulance.

I want to see a Face/Off reboot with Jai Courtney and Sam Worthington taking the place of Travolta and Nic Cage.
