In a recent interview with French magazine Premiere, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice production designer Patrick Tatopoulos dropped some very interesting hints about Doomsday's role in the movie, seemingly dismissing in the process the theories that it will in any way be adapting the "Death of Superman" story arc. The villain's look has obviously been fairly divisive since he first appeared in the latest trailer for the movie, but could we see him evolve in any way here? "We are able to tell a story in a fresh way," Tatopoulos explains. "Doomsday is an evolution essentially. Fans may be aware of the death of Superman story, but this is handled in such a new way."

Unfortunately, it appears as if he's referring to the evolution Doomsday goes through when Lex Luthor is transforming the body of General Zod into the near unstoppable monster rather than into something closer to his comic book counterpart during the finale battle, but the production designer's comments are still very intriguing. "When the film is called Batman v or versus Superman, it really has a lot of levels to the meaning. Superman isn't just killed off at the end of something. We see how he evolves as part of Lex's plan to protect the world. Seeing the Superman we know, be gone, and then replaced with this reproduction is really going to make fans think of how we look at these super beings. It was especially interesting to figure out, how would you create Superman from Zod... then how would that involve into Doomsday." Here's where things get even more interesting though. Tatopoulos went on to tease that there's a "larger threat" at play, while the "timeframe of how things fall into place will surprise fans" and:

"Doomsday isn't just the final act."

-Zod is part of it, Lex creates "Black Zero" Superman. -> B-zero Superman -> Bizarro Superman.
-There's a sequence that shows Zod's reanimation and he has a Frankenstein vibe.
-Doomsday protocol is something that's inside all Krytpnians except Superman because he had a natural birth.
-Lex triggers the DD protocol on Bizarro Supes/Zod, turns into the thing we see in trailer
-He evolves, grows bones on face after Supes drags his face over the pavement, WW cuts its arm and grows a spike as rumored.
-Becomes too powerful and they trap it in the Phantom Zone with the help of Batman

None of that stuff is true. I loled at the "Batman has a heart attack". The movie is much simpler and more straightforward than all that nonsense.
