I think Routh and Cavill are about equals on the acting front. Obviously, very different styles they excel at.

Nah, I've seen Cavill in a few movies now. He was awful in all of them, he seems like a cool guy in the real world so I don't dislike him, but I honestly don't think he can act. Routh was very good in Returns IMO and some other things. There were a lot of problems with Returns but he wasn't one of them.

Edit: just read back the last few pages. :lol
There is nothing wrong with Cavills hairline! :lol

I thought Cavill was actually fine in Man of Steel. Similar to what you say about Returns, if you had to rank order the problems, he wouldn't be in the top 20 for me!

Cavill to me has the right look (although his receding hairline could be a problem in future films) but his performance didn't really stand out to me in Man of Steel as being very memorable. He's okay as the Superman for the moment but I don't think of him as the character necessarily. As much as I feel that the Reeve films have aged poorly in some aspects Reeve embodied the character so well. I don't know that any portrayal will live up to his version.

Well a huge part of that is the story and approach. The casting is a function of that. Does Cavill work as a Golden or Silver Age Superman? Not really. But as a post-modern, Frank Miller inspired, Zach Snyder directed Superman? I think he does a serviceable job. Great or even particularly memorable? Maybe not, but I could say the same about, say, Chris Evans Captain America. Evans just benefits from being in better, more well written movies.

I've always been open to another actor replacing Reeve as "my Superman", but so far none have succeeded. Strangely enough, the closest I've gotten to that feeling of watching Reeve Superman is when I'm watching Grant Gustin as the Flash.

Well, I didn't say who looked more like Superman. :thwak

Awf cawrse Cavill looks the part way better than Routh.

Routh looked like Singer's boy toy. :lol

I was talking about who acted the part better and who is an overall better actor.
No way man. :lol

You're comparing tofu to soy milk - same ****. I never thought I'd say this, but I even like the Routh's old costume better than Cavill's new roid track suit.
