But he could also have the spear in hand, knife or spear he also ran the risk of Superman flying away, so he neede to pin him down. At that point, does it really make a difference? Knife or Spear? No it doesn't.

Why would a knife not work against Doomsday?

The only thing convenient is the fact that they used a spear for metaphoric purposes, they could've also used a sword or a knife and it would also have metaphoric purposes.

a knife wouldn't work on doomsday because he was a really big guy

I get it. But he also has tech that seems to electronically jam firearms. But hey, at that point I guess time was of the essence. In the kryptonite chase scene, he actually didn't NEED to chase them. The bug was already there and he ended up having the steal the rock from the research base anyway. :dunno
I think the idea was that the tracking device was his insurance policy/backup plan in case he wasn't able to get it right then (which he wasn't). Batman almost always has a backup plan.

Another thing I love about Batman (and this applies to each and every live-action version): He keeps his ****ing mask on in a fight! :lecture
:rock Kinda like Indy and his hat.

I watched it again today. You really appreciate it more on further viewing. I love that one take fight scene in the Knightmare. Ben has mad skills and is a beast in that suit.

Compared to the Roman soldier who stabbed Jesus? I'm not following you.

I think the comparison is superficial at best. The soldier is putting what he perceives to be an "enemy of the state" to death while Batfleck is trying to dispatch of someone he believes is a mass murderer/future planet-killer.

The dialogue doesn't make much sense in that moment.

I'll hold you to that autograph! I wish I could tell him in person that I loved the film, he looks exhausted in all the press and preproduction he has been doing the last few weeks.

Sheesh, that scene. Maybe it'll look better a second time around but it looked like a guy rehearsing a fight scene rather than a fight scene. :lol

I loved the look of the parademons. Hopefully Darkseid doesn't look like Shredder. :monkey1

That's my biggest fear with these movies. So far, they haven't really gone for traditional bad guys, between their interpretations of the villains in SS, Luthor, etc. and I really hope that Darkseid is...well, Darkseid.

I like the spear. It makes for a great visual. A sword or a knife is corny and with a gun there's nothing you can really show visually that fires solid kryptonite rounds (which is why we have the aerosol form).

Having it be this spear rod makes it mythic. It's like Moby **** or David and Goliath or something. It's a primitive, humble weapon against this seemingly invincible God. It plays into the idea of what Wayne tells Alfred about the "1st Waynes", how they were fur, pelt and trap hunters. Even though I think the fight goes on for too long, dislike superman's motivation for it being his mom held hostage and think the "Martha" reasoning for why they stop fighting is poorly done, I think it's a well done scene. You can actually feel the blows that they're hitting each other with and there are a few moments where I thought Batman was going to pass out or become a cripple from his heavy breathing from being thrown around through tons of dry wall. It actually had some power behind it instead of that video gamey look the Zod and Superman fight had in MoS when they're constantly punching each other a mile into the air. It just needed to be reigned in more, lose the ceramic sink, lose the rope a dope, lasso swingin' Batman. I love how Batman's starts out with his "box trap" with the sonic guns, machine guns and bombs planted in the vicinity. I like how he's slowly luring Superman down to the lower levels so he can rope him and drag him to wear he hid the spear so he can end him.
