There's actually some pretty dank poetry in BvS.

The movie opens with a funeral and ends with a funeral. The shot of the bullet casing when the mugger shoots Martha and Thomas is duplicated shot for shot with the casings of the canons during Superman's 21 gun salute. After the Wayne murders in the beginning, it cuts to Metropolis. After Superman's funeral at the end, it cuts to Metropolis with the people at a candle lit vigil around the new Superman monument that says "if you build it, they will come" or whatever the **** that said.

There's also the whole thing that someone on here pointed out, I think it was Gaspar, how these two scenes mirror each other.

That's all Nolan did for The Dark Knight Rises too.

What's Storm got to do with it?

The Tower of Babel gave the uber Bat-God fanboys the argument of "with prep, Batman can defeat anyone, just look at that JL story", which is a bane for debaters in comicbook sites like comicvine. Even when he goes up against characters like Iron Man, Black Panther and Doctor Doom who far outclass him in the intelligence, prep and stats department, they still ignore it and go with that tired argument. Hell, I've seen folks say he can beat The Maker and the Silver Surfer with enough prep.

But all of that pales in comparison to the under-devoted Storm fanbase. Her fans are obnoxious, follow no logic, pull feats right out of their *****, and clutter boards with Storm threads every day. The majority believes that she's a part of the Multiverse and can tangle with Abstracts. Hell, they think she can beat Wonder Woman and Superman at once with no difficulty whatsoever!

Sorry for the thread derail.

Holy crap those Nolan throwbacks. And people complain about TFA. I really did like the look on Talia's face when she clicked the detonator and nothing happened though. Too bad her infamous death overshadows everything else she did in that film.

"If you seek his monument, look around you"

It's an old Latin phrase ("si monumentum requiris, circum spice") that is generally used to describe a person's legacy - and can be taken to mean that what we leave behind (including intangible things like relationships, people who's lives you saved, etc) best represents our life.

No it's fine. I was a Storm fan but that stems from the comics I started collecting as a kid. I just loved that particular group of X-Men with Wolverine, Storm, Psylocke (pre-ninja), Longshot, Rogue, Colossus, and Dazzler. They such misfits but Claremont always made sure to treat them like real people too.

One bad always outshines all the good.

Yup, that was it. I musta had Pa Costner on the brain.

So Superman's legacy is a bunch of destroyed cities? Man, that was not a good line for his grave... They better change it for his biography...

I kid, I kid, I just couldn't resist. :lol I actually liked that part. It didn't have much emotional impact for me because, well, we didn't see him do lots of heroic deeds that made the world vastly different than the one before he appaeared, but it was a nice touch. Yeah, he did some things, but it's not like he reshaped the Earth and made it a vastly better place. It was a nice idea, which could've been done better is what I'm saying.

The Outback era was damn great! I have a really vague recollection of it, but I remember liking it for the most part.

Yeah, but though it originated that way that quote isn't about inspiration or being an icon now, it's about legacy (it's often used for people who've done nothing more than spawn a family). And I'd say saving the world twice is a pretty decent legacy. :p

I'm not dissagreeing, but it stems from the fact that I still think it was too soon for his death. I get that they went "backwards" (Superman becomes a beloved icon because he sacrifices himself), but I still would've preferred a more... "classic" approach.

Ya your right he should have just let zod in Man of Steel, or doomsday in BVS, destroy earth .. As martha kent says' you don't owe this world a thing", or the ungrateful humans that inhabit it- who persecute you any chance they get. It was real easy for Reeve superman to do good, everyone loved him the moment he made himself known to the world. This superman is hated, feared and persecuted but still chose to sacrifice himself for the human race-- what is more heroic then that

"Here lies Superman, the one who saved the Earth twice from beings that appeared here because of him. For that we will forever be in his...debt?"

;)

More like, in debt.

Fair enough :duff

Geez mate, twas just a joke. I'm just saying that considering the sum of his actions, the quote could take a different, less favourable meaning as well.
