Yeah to call it a failure "financially wise" is off.
I do think the sting of the critical reviews, the overall disappointment from the fans, and the huge drop off is what got under WB skin.
Personally I don't care how much it made. I am let down it was not a better film. IMO someone should have been let go after MOS... Snyder, Goyer. or whoever... The shakeup IMO should have happened then... They basically ended up giving us much the same film tone wise. It was better IMO but someone should have been helping to direct the ship back on course a bit better... Instead of a nice straight line to our DC fan hearts they took a scenic route of things we never asked for or wanted to see. Personally I think Snyder is lucky to still be directing JL... Not because of the box office of BvS but because of the final product that ended up on screen... had that product been better everything else would have fallen into place. Perhaps it was not Snyder's fault.. However I look at Sucker Punch, Watchmen, the owl movie, MoS, and even 300 (has not aged well) and I tend to think the blame lies there but perhaps it was the script or something..
I don't know... I have nothing agains the man. I liked his DotD remake and 300 the first time I saw it... I just don;t feel that his sense of style and stroy telling fits this comic book Universe very well. Or perhaps it does and it's all Goyers fault (which is very likely)
We will find out next year.
