Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

"Batman vs Superman" sounds like a battle between two equals, which basically makes Superman look like a loser. It is also reminiscent of every stupid *** movie that ever included a "vs" in the title. King Kong vs. Godzilla, Freddy vs. Jason, Alien vs. Predator, etc.

"Batman v Superman" sounds like a movie about an obsessed antihero having a beef with a godlike alien without any indication about how it will play out on screen.

Second version is better.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Man you people can put a lot of connotation in v vs. vs.....

or do I mean v v. vs? *cue evil laugh*

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Apparently not everyone;

:lol I know what it means, my point is that dropping the "s" gives it a different connotation which is exactly why I said it sounds more like a legal term. You don't want to agree that's fine, but I'm obviously not the only one who understands that as Khev pointed out the same thing.

I honestly believe VS would look better on a movie poster/toy packaging etc.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Actually, that's kinda a weird case because the real title of the movie is in fact just Alien vs. Predator. But on the marketing material like posters they call it AVP Alien vs. Predator. Which amounts to the movie being Alien vs. Predator Alien vs. Predator which also sums up the thought put into the writing of the movie itself. :lol

Also, you can make an argument, which I did earlier, that dropping the s makes sense in terms of it being quicker to say like AVP, Batman V Superman or BVS, but the official title adds another 3 words, like I said, which is contrary to shortening what you have to say. It just doesn't make sense to me.

As Khev points out, the movies maybe bad(Freddy vs Jason, King Kong vs Godzilla) but the movies have almost always used vs in the title itself because v connotes the context of a legal preceding. Maybe that's what they were going for. I dunno.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I can't believe there's a few pages of people arguing about VS over V :lol

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

What do you guys think about the font of the colon in the title? I'm drafting up a 60 page dissertation conveying my thoughts but I'm curious as to what people's quick thoughts on it might be in the meantime.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

In comics and books it's always "VERSUS" or "VS."

:exactly: And pretty much anything else where they want to convey a physical fight.

It just feels like this movie was named by lawyers at the studio who're trying a little too hard to make the Avengers already out of a 1 movie universe.

Pretty much, yes.
Just like the need to name a reboot of Superman "Man of Steel".

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

It's a balance some of these guys have found. We want the character motivations taken seriously but to still maintain the aesthetic feel of a comic book. Arkham City/Arkham Origins, Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. Even the Batsuit in this looks like a step in that correct direction.

Well with the tone set by MOS, It's really gonna be hard to take someone wearing a molded/padded fake muscle bat suit seriously. Last time i checked, realism is the foundation which MOS was built on. Even the Kryptonian suits came off as a realistic alien battle armor worn by soldiers from outer space. I'm not knocking the Bat-fleck suit(I love it) and as awesome as the suit looks, it doesn't necessarily fit in wit the MOS world.

Is this sarcasm?

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

maybe is the name not: superman vs batman but Man of steel & the dark knight

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

No, It's just my quick rant about how the new Batsuit for MOS doesn't fit with the tone of the movie. Even the Kryptonians wore armor for god-sake so i don't see why they didn't give Batman armor as well. I know i'm about to get mauled by a pack of you guys here in this thread but this is just my own opinion.

Also i just want to make it clear that i LOVE the new look of Batsuit but in terms of practicality, it makes no sense what so ever. I can't really buy that Batman is gonna take on Superman with next to no protection for his body.
