Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

On a more positive note I do like the rumors of how he's tied to the story and I have no precedence in aquaman fanhood except, basically, Flashpoint Paradox and other modern versions. But for both aesthetic and moral diversity reasons I' find it stupid to not just cast a blond actor.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Mamoa's not going to probably win an Oscar anytime soon, but he's been on TV for over a decade, he's not anything near the unknown quantity Gadot is. He also has the physique to play a swim creature, hopefully they wouldn't ask him to bulk up. It is alot of dark hair casting, but if that's the biggest complaint about a flick, oh well.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Plus, tbh, casting for Aquaman to me is about equal to who they cast to play the Wonder Twins, sorry if Aquaman is your 'dude'. :lol

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Na it's not that important, but I just think aquaman is one of the very, very, VERY few in which ethnicity actually matters, as it just makes sense people from the sea are pale moddafakkers (radiation can't get there, there's no way to build pigment in the sea).:lol It looks logical to have a blond guy come out the sea, it has something iconic as well because he's a monarchical ruler (and gold is associated with kings I'd say). They should all be Lanisters down there.:lol (And they probably are, I mean how big is atlantis' population?)

Overall I'm totally cool with switching up ethnicities if there is a GOOD reason for it, like an actor just fitting the part personality-wise, and if that increases diversity mostly all the better. As long as it doesn't make it illogical practically.

I also just don't know mamoa so, ultimately, if snyder casts him that in and of itself gives me some faith.

But I'm still bummed about it if he's not blond.:lol I just like diversity, it looks cooler to me. And I do think things should remain accurate to the iconography of the CB if there's no real reason to change it (which is pretty subjective I admit).

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I miss asian dudes in these teams as well. In both JL and Avengers.

Switch up an ethnicity to asian for once. Instead of fricking making everybody white with dark hair. (ftr, I am white and I have dark hair.:lol)

Who knows, maybe if he does have the part, they may plan on blonding him up or they might go with some unexpected kelp looking hair. :lol
I actually think going with a sea color would make more sense than a sea dweller with fair skin and golden locks, if we're looking at it from a practical view.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Oh dear god Mamoa's ACTUALLY been in Baywatch... well there you have it.

Yeah it's true blonding up Evans works very well with Cap so... So long as they actually do make him blond. No dark haired aquaman, ridiculous imo. There's no reason to change that, AT ALL.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Actually, the refraction of the light should make pigmentation possible, I've seen quite a few works in which Atlantis people are portrayed of darker skin.

Of course that's completely irrelevant to the DC mythos :lol but there's definitely background for a dark skinned Atlantean (is that even the word?).

Coincidentally Momoa starred in SG Atlantis :lol

You were just complaining about needless changing of characters and having too many dark skinned dark haired heros. Casting an albino Asian make u happy? :lol

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

LOL not for aquaman, but plenty of other roles I could see an asian actor playing brilliantly.

Also, I looked it up, but the radiation that builds pigment gets absorbed more and more the deeper you go underwater. Considering Atlantis isn't exactly at the surface (is it?) I say it's nonsense to have dark skinned atlantians. Aren't we talking generations upon generations of people living underwater!?

Or do atlanteans all go to land often? Or take in land dwelling people among their citizens? Cause then it negates it I guess.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I didn't know Simon Phoenix was an Atlantean? :lol

Is that actually what Aquaman is? You can tell I have zero knowledge of the character, I just thought he was some weird sea mutant. :wink1:

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Okay so if we're talking about Atlanteans as generations upon generations of people JUST living underwater than dark skinned atlanteans are nonsense.

If that's not the case then I've no problem with it. It's not about ethnicity itself to me, at all, it's about buying into what I see.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Nope, he's Atlantean.

Well, if Atlantis was sooooooo deep underwater that no UV radiation gets in, then we would also be talking about blind, bio-luminescent Atlanteans :lol otherwise refraction should do the trick.

Perhaps we're overthinking the matter :lol I definitely see the angle of respecting the character look though, but given that people associate that look with a character destined to be the target of mockery, maybe they're trying to scratch that up people's memory.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Yeah, too bad that's probably a limbo character. :(

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

@Gasper that's probably it. But on the other hand you should own up to it, not be scared away from it. CHanging aquman's appearance because he was mocked is about the dumbest thing you can. It's basically saying 'We don't like to be bullied so we'll run away."

Bio-luminescent atlanteans... that's ****ing awesome.

I want radiating aquaman eyes now.
