Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

If BvsS fails, WB will be selling DC to Marvel.

This movie better make at the very least Avengers box office numbers, at the very least.

Not even Avengers 2 mind you. :lol

It will, without a doubt, the real trick is seeing WB get that box office twice or more, and for that, the following movies need to be good.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

To look at the silver lining, most of the audience will have no clue who Cap Marvel or Black Adam are to begin with, so they probably won't be confused or upset at the fact that it wouldn't be related to the other DC movies. And it will allow the filmmakers to, presumably, be more creative than the Snyderverse would allow. I will say that it would seem more difficult to fit him into a "no humor" universe than it would be for other characters, though. Or at least, a "no light-hearted" universe.

I disagree with Nam about Sandman, though. Sure, he is an odd choice if you're really trying to ape Marvel's success. But Gaiman's Sandman stories are some of the best comics I've ever read. If done right, that franchise could be huge, appealing to comic geeks, general audiences, and your Twilight fans and whatnot. Only difference is that Sandman gave us the best kind of emo characters :lol

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Let's hope BvS fixes all the wrong that was MoS. Then people really won't care about a kid and his magic lightning man. As it is, it's ****ing mindboggling that out of all the characters in their stable and a JLA movie inbound, they didn't pick one of them, but instead picked Shazam and Sandman. That would've been like Marvel doing Iron Man and then following it up with Sleepwalker and Darkhawk. :lol

I think that's kind of DC's point, though. They're sort of diving head first into Justice League to launch all those characters. Shazam isn't really attached to that universe, from what we've heard. In a perfect world, that would be because it would be too jarring for him to exist in the same grounded universe as Man of Steel, because, if they're doing it right, Shazam should have a lighter, more adventurous tone. It's a wish fulfillment fantasy of a young boy becoming a superhero/man with a magic word. Ideally, though, the DCU would progressively lighten up until they could, then, connect the Shazam films to the DC film Universe.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

You know what could be really great, if executed well? If they explore the multiverse concept, and have Marvel exist in Earth-S as he originally did. Talking animals, simplistic humans, it's own wacky superheroes that could be totally fun and outlandish. Then later on, maybe we could get a "Crisis on Two Earths" and later "Crisis on Infinite Earths" type storyline spanning the Shazam, JLA, and maybe even JSA films. We could get the Crime Syndicate, Kamandi, the All-Star Squadron, golden age Superman, etc.

Won't happen in a million years, but. . .

That would be awesome, and I've been behind the Multiverse since Day One. Personally, I wish DC would just blow everyone's minds by introducing the multiverse concept to film and announcing that everything since the Alyn Superman show has been canon (I don't think WB have the rights to the Batman or Marvel serials) and that they are all set in the same continuity, just in parallel universes. I just picture Anti-Monitor traveling through realities and you get a glimpse of Keaton holding one of the thugs off the rooftop or Carter spinning around.

When I think Shazam, I think Kingdom Come, probably the most epic books ever created, and I hate using that word but here it fits. His showdown with Superman is the stuff nerds tell their grandchildren (well other people's kids if they're the stereotypical nerds) about. :lol It would be a shame if that wasn't ever a possibility because WB's too EMO to let it happen in their little EMO JL universe.

I wholeheartedly agree with you sir, on both the battle and "epic." It's safe to say that is a legitimately "epic" story. For Pete's sake, the biblical subtext and "judgement day," and all that; there's no reason why you should hate using that word. I think people need to deconstruct their slang. "Awesome," for example. If something's considered "cool," it's "awesome," even though something that's actually "awesome" should be earth shattering enough to fill you with awe.:lol

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Another showdown I liked was Justice's Shazam vs Black Adam, not as epic as KC but still pretty good, it has one of my favorite Shazam panels ever.

The new 52 also has some great moments.

I guess, but I never thought Waid was a really great writer or anything, though his books were generally good, particularly his Flash and Captain America stuff.

He's one of the best DC's ever had. It's a shame the dude doesn't get more credit. When I was talking to him at WonderCon about all the great work he's done, some ***** in a Ledger Joker shirt walked up and asked him if he worked for the con (the lanyard) and asked where the bathrooms were. Felt like punching the ******. :( :lol

^ No way, really!? :slap

Anyway.. WB/DC reminds me of that classic Abbot & Costello skit - 'Who's On First'.

They're both clueless to each others' position - but don't let that discourage you, because the aim is to confuse you so much in the process, that they hope to rope you in & get you thinking it was all a master stroke every step of the way. :lol

And then you get Green Lantern. :lol

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Yes.. :monkey4

That film makes Freddy Got Fingered look like art house cinema. :lol

I know I'm in the vocal minority, but I actually felt that TKDR and MoS were on that same level, with TDKR and MoS being worse *******izations of the characters than GL. All 3 showed the writers clearly didn't understand the characters (nor wanted to for that matter). Though the irony there is that Reynolds' GL actually fits with the New 52 GL.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I get you. The comics have always been there as excellent guides, yet they seem to be glorified toilet paper to these Hollywood schleps half the time.

I've got zero interest in watching MoS again, but although TDKR has it's stupid moments too, I didn't mind it as much. That said, I've only seen the film properly twice, & after buying it I got through about half & gave up. I'm being a tad harsh with GL though - the Corps / OA stuff was pretty good actually for the most part.

Good to see you back btw mate. :duff
