On PC with the ultra settings this game looks great.

The beta on the Xbox-PS3, without the supposedly high resolution install, definately looks worse than BC2.

Hopefully the high rez install will make it look better.

I wouldn't say it looks great on PC. It looks good. I still find the vegetation and stuff a bit "blocky" at times compared to a lot of other games. The ultra settings are not even the real deal as per Dice. It says ultra but it's not. When the retail version comes out it'll look like it's supposed to.

Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 Version Coming With Higher Textures Fri Oct 07, 2011 10:47 pm

One of the biggest complaints from console fans of Battlefield 3 is the difference in graphics from PC. According to Gamerzines it may all change in favor of consoles, most notably the Xbox 360. From their interview with Patrick Liu we've learned that the Xbox 360's second disc for Battlefield 3 will also have higher resolution texture packs that can be installed on the users Xbox 360 for enhanced graphics. The user does not have to install the extra graphics, they are simply an option. This isn't some magical hack that DICE has pushed onto the Xbox 360, but an enhancement tool that streams higher resolution textures (textures are what make characters, buildings, cars, etc. look real), in return offering better graphics. The game RAGE also had the streaming technology, but Liu states that DICE has taken the technology even farther in Battlefield 3.

Liu wrote:
We're pushing that technology to the limit, and compared to our competitors, I would argue that we're the best looking game.

Battlefield 3 is sub-HD on consoles, running at 1280x704 instead of 1280x720. This was done to improve the game's overall performance, most players wouldn't notice the difference between HD and sub-HD anyway. There hasn't been any indication if these higher resolution textures would bump BF3 on consoles into the HD certified resolution. It's a possibility that it may go HD with this optional install pack, but that is pure speculation. Playstation 3 users were not mentioned at all.

Definitely looks worse to you...not me. High Rez, low Rez, 60 frames or 30, the game has a visual style that looks good to me.

I dont think its a great level to showcase the graphics. The firestorm level looks pretty amazing to me.

True enough I suppose. I think Metro looks good, but based on what I've seen in trailers, there's a lot more visually striking maps in the game. That's not the issue though. Some people aren't going to like the graphics and style no matter what though. Some look at Caspian Border and say "meh". Not much can be done for those folks.

Played an entire match in the opening park, two guys hanging back and sniping, never going for the M-Com, the rest of the team were pretty much absent, never going for the M-Com at all, then at the last minute they all scramble for it.

Suck It Stupid sniping campers!!!! trying to rack up Kills? final game screen reads "YOUR TEAM WINS"!!!!

Yep, that sounds like Battlefield alright. Playing with friends is almost a must. Especially in Rush mode. For whatever reason, random players almost always suck. Makes no sense.

the support class is a beast. especially since you get the holo-sight pretty damn quickly.

Things will unlock a lot slower in the final game I'd imagine. I believe I heard they sped up all that stuff for the beta.

I enjoyed the beta, (probably too much got to colonel 2). I fully unlocked the assault class and was kind of dissapointed. I do like that, at least at first progression seemed slow. However at the end of was underwhelmed by the number of gun unlocks. And WTF was up with the last unlock being the m16a3/Ak74M that should be the first one IMO.

I also felt some of the sub-machineguns are a little over powered. Towards the end it seemed like everyone that wasn't sniping was using a UMP. The accuracy and range it had was unrealistic.

I consider myself a good BF player, I've played all BF's except Vietnam. I almost always have a K/D ratio over 1.0 even when my team is terribad. Generally I have over 2.0. I don't just go for kills I support my team, and play the game as it is ment to. The problem I have is none of my friends are into games much so I get stuck trying to do my best with randoms.

If anyone is looking for a solid team player who knows what he's doing hit me up. I'll be on PS3 on release day, my tag is octopootie.

Heh yeah the name is always good for a laugh!

I prefer PS3 for the free online. I wish I could play BF3 on pc but don't have a rig for it ATM. :monkey2

If you decide on getting it for PS3 hit me up! :wave

Yes it's been confirmed that everything is on fast forward right now for the Beta to show the people what there is in the game.

There's no "bad weapon to best weapon" progression unlock in BF. BFBC2 was the same. Some of the later guns sucked ass. They just unlock new weapons and you use whatever suits you better. I still play with the initial guns most of the time. Sniper I play with the M24. Engineer with the first sub machine gun and the Scar. etc etc. I find they best suit me.

I understand there is no bad to good progression, and I like that. I also like how they didn't use fake weapon stats. All I meant was it felt a bit anti-climatic to have the default weapons as the final unlock, and with it taking significantly less points to unlock when compared to the AN-94 seemed like it belonged as an earlier unlock.
