Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 Version Coming With Higher Textures Fri Oct 07, 2011 10:47 pm
One of the biggest complaints from console fans of Battlefield 3 is the difference in graphics from PC. According to Gamerzines it may all change in favor of consoles, most notably the Xbox 360. From their interview with Patrick Liu we've learned that the Xbox 360's second disc for Battlefield 3 will also have higher resolution texture packs that can be installed on the users Xbox 360 for enhanced graphics. The user does not have to install the extra graphics, they are simply an option. This isn't some magical hack that DICE has pushed onto the Xbox 360, but an enhancement tool that streams higher resolution textures (textures are what make characters, buildings, cars, etc. look real), in return offering better graphics. The game RAGE also had the streaming technology, but Liu states that DICE has taken the technology even farther in Battlefield 3.
Liu wrote:
We're pushing that technology to the limit, and compared to our competitors, I would argue that we're the best looking game.
Battlefield 3 is sub-HD on consoles, running at 1280x704 instead of 1280x720. This was done to improve the game's overall performance, most players wouldn't notice the difference between HD and sub-HD anyway. There hasn't been any indication if these higher resolution textures would bump BF3 on consoles into the HD certified resolution. It's a possibility that it may go HD with this optional install pack, but that is pure speculation. Playstation 3 users were not mentioned at all.
