I could understand if people simply had doubts, thought other cadidates to be better suited, or had a personal dislike of Affleck.

Affleck from 10 years ago is gone. The boy-faced, pretty leading man from Pearl Harbor, has been replaced with a stern, rugged man with experience, physical presence, Wayne's chin as well as knowledge and passion for the source material. People who make casting decision, know what they are doing and what is at stake. They don't just choose people for ****s and giggles.

The only reason they choose Ben Affleck is because Warner Brothers needs a new star after losing Legendary Pictures. Affleck is all they had. They didn't choose the guy because of his amazing acting abilities (sarcasm), they got stuck with him.

Earlier this summer, when Warner Bros. lost Legendary Pictures to Universal Pictures, some major decisions had to get made in order to try to bring money in. Affleck was the only "big" name Warner Bros had. They chose to go with "name" over "talent". They thought that was the right move instead of taking a risk with other actors for Batman.

Why are some people here taking offense to the Ben Affleck backlash and acting like the guy can do no wrong? His past is filled with bad movies and ****ty acting. Suddenly, Argo is supposed to redeem a life worth of crap.

God****ingforbid people improve on their craft.

Also, for someone who's looking deeply into the past, maybe you should brush up on this guy.

Who made such classic films as, The Brothers Grimm, A Knight's Tale, and The Patriot.

What a joke of an actor, am I right?

I had a buddy in that theater too. He almost ended up in that specific auditorium. But he decided to go into another one instead. He still has the ticket.

Affleck is all they had.

Bull****. There were lots of high profile actors at least interested in this gig. Many of the casting rumours proved to be false, but in the end the list of contenders was long and the gig was not without its appeal to those whose names were considered.

Secondly, one could argue about the supposed "star power" of Affleck. The man hasn't been a frontline star in years. He played various parts, but his blockbuster days are long gone.

In terms of public perception Affleck, for most regular Joes, is that popculture curiosity from the times of yore, that had some postivie media attention recently, but hasn't really "starred" in any major flick. His power, reputation as a hot director/screen writer seems separate from his older "OMG its Ben Affleck's face on the poster!" reputation as an blockbuster star and teen heart-throb. Which is one of the main reason so many people are bitiching, despite the fact that Affleck had nothing but succeses in recent years.

, A Knight's Tale

Don't be hating on Knight's Tale ;)

It's not bad. But I figured i'd throw it in there, because it's not a high quality piece of filmmaking. :D

You suck at analogies. :lol

Ben Affleck is a known quantity in the realm of superhero movies and he managed to help destroy Daredevil from the start.

My general rule is for actors to try to stick to one superhero role per career. I know some of the exceptions, but usually not a good idea. Chris Evans came on as Cap but he was also a highlight of the FF movies. WB miscast Reynolds after a bad outing in XO: Wolverine (though he was good early in the film) and Blade III didn't exactly hinge on his performance.

As DFanatic said, there are reasons to believe this decision was made for less noble intentions than having a legitimate vision for the character.

First of all, Argo is not the only good acting (or Directing) job he has done, but it certanly showed he could elevate his game. And to call his career a "Life worth of Crap" is pretty brazen, what have you done to elevate your life beyond "crap"? What if everyone criticized every single thing you did? Work, love, marriage, fatherhood, family life, etc...

Secondly, Please, Name one established actor who doesnt have his share of bad movies.

Oscar Winners... (listing only 1 example for each)
Ben Kingsley - Blood Rayne
Jack Nicholson - Wolf
Heath Ledger - A Knights Tale
Robert Deniro - Meet The Fokkers
Dustin Hoffman - Ishtar
Christopher Walken - ***** of Fury
Anthony Hopkins - The Wolfman
Daniel Day-Lewis - Nine
George Clooney - Batman and Robin
Kevin Spacey - Fred Claus
Sean Connery - Entrapment
Al Pacino - Gigli ;)
Jeff Bridges - RIPD
Marlon Brando - Island of Dr. Moreau
Robert Duvall - Secondhand Lions
Michael Caine - Secondhand Lions

Hell, even Orson Welles has some dubious credits to his resume.

The list goes on and on, and those are just for actors who won an Oscar. Actors, that for the most part, I think most on here would say are among the best there are. Even fan favorites like Harrison Ford have a large number of stinkers on their resume, but I doubt most would say he couldnt act.

AND, at the end of the day, I hate to break it to you, but this is just Batman. Nothing that actually means anything or matters in any real way. It's entertainment.

Yes. He, Ben Affleck the actor destroyed Daredevil. Not the ****ing director or writer.

"he managed to help destroy Daredevil from the start"

He wasn't the only one for sure, but dark and brooding is out of his range. He can be dramatic, but not dark and brooding. He should move on to better things before he ruins both franchises and possibly stall his newfound revival.

You really don't understand the actor/director relationship.

It's why a someone like Christian Bale can win an Academy Award in The Fighter, and absolutely suck in Terminator Salvation.

And if you disagree, you're wrong.

Ben Kingsley was also in the Love Guru which is one of the worst movies ever made.

I understand the actor being responsible for his own performances, and Daredevil will never be on an Affleck highlight reel. If you disagree, I'll send you back to the orphanage! :horror

You're not right. A actor only does what he's told.
