I could understand if people simply had doubts, thought other cadidates to be better suited, or had a personal dislike of Affleck.
But all the definitive "THIS WILL SURELY SUCK. DC IS STUPID. MARVEL IS LAUGHING. AFFLECK WILL BLOW" comments that are flooding the internet, are just baffling. Especially since so many of them are made by people, who reguraly watch movies, and should know better. What makes or brakes a role is made of a number of abstract and hard to definie elements. To speak with such definitive, ex-cathedra finality about such matter as potential acting role is really silly. People are making just the easiest, broadest mental associations with Ben's career in the past, and jump to stupid conclusions. Reasonable doubt, or personal dislike are the two harshest applicable feelings in this situation. The sheer OUTRAGE and 100% conviction that this wil be a disaster is simply ridiculous. And its not like this the first time. How many Ledgers, Craigs or Hathaways do we get, before people learn to apply benefit of the doubt.
Affleck from 10 years ago is gone. The boy-faced, pretty leading man from Pearl Harbor, has been replaced with a stern, rugged man with experience, physical presence, Wayne's chin as well as knowledge and passion for the source material. People who make casting decision, know what they are doing and what is at stake. They don't just choose people for ****s and giggles.
