You're not right. A actor only does what he's told.

:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl Yeah I forgot the actor totally doesn't come up with anything on their own. They're like big Teddy Ruxpins waiting for a cassette to the chest.

Hint: It's not the same as making a short film with plastic figures.

They ****ing are though. Actors only do what the directors tell them. That's their job. No different then any other job. You don't listen to your boss, you get fired. Period.

So if Harrison Ford had listened to Spielberg we'd have a long-winded fight between the Cairo Swordsman and Indy instead of the infamous Indy shoots first. A good actor takes direction as a guide and improvises to make the performance their own.

My dear Celtic, you're ****ing clueless. :lol

Key word here is "collaboration". The director has the final say, but good actors are able to bring their own interpretation of the character to the table and develop it with the director.

At the highest level they actually seek out actors that have developed their own styles/methods and want them to bring that with them to the film they're making. True story bro! :lecture

That was an agreement between Spielberg and Ford. Actors adding insight isn't the same thing as an actor willfully not listening to a director.

Sometimes that happens, but that boils down to a bad actor\Director relationship. But for the most part, the actor is the employee, an the director is the boss. Simple as that.
