"Del Toro will play a man who returns from America to his ancestral homeland, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence."

Del Toro as a Victorian Englishman? Okay, I'm all on the "haters" bandwagon now... :monkey4

Del Toro will play an AMERICAN who visits England, where his ancestors lived, like in the original.

Del Toro is serving as a PRODUCER and will have a voice in how the movie is done, and so far he has hired the writer of "Se7en."

Del Toro is a COLLECTOR who loves the Wolf Man.

But hey, resume shrieking if it makes you feel good, guys...this movie may not be perfect when it comes out in two years, so why wait to criticize? It'll keep you busy until there's news about the "Creature" remake. Sheesh...

yeah I dont get what all the groaning is about either. I mean Benicio is an awesome actor and is a FAN of the original. Which is exactly who I would want helming a remake. Someone who loves the original ... makes alot of sense to me.

.. his character in The Pledge was damn near a wolfman already. haha

this movie will rock!

... on second thought, maybe they could get a guy in a green suit to hold up Chaney Jr's body and animate him to reprise his role. ... yeah .. thats it! .. thats the way to make everyone happy. :D

I'm thinking Benecio ain't gonna want a CGI double...he's gonna want to do it himself. Bring a little of the Oliver Reed sex appeal to it, but keep it in the misty original setting. Throw in a few twists, "Se7en" had a few of those, see what that writer can do with it...

Think Benecio has a Sideshow PF Wolf Man? :naughty

Okay, Del Toro as a Victorian American? Still not buying it...

Seriously he's not a bad actor if you like that mumbling method stuff, but I'm not a fan.

Or course if he's a collector, perhaps he lurks on this board...in that case -

WE LOVE YOU BENECIO! PLEASE POST!

Where's the love for Andrew Kevin Walker? I'd see anything he writes.

And don't get me started on how important the screenplay is.

****Siiiigghh**** Come on guys, I didn't start the thread to bash Del Toro. As I stated, I think he is a good actor. The fact that he collects Wolfman memorabilia is a plus. I started the thread because I feel that actors seem to get lost in the wash and play second fiddle to CGI effects these days. I am perfectly willing to wait and see if I even like the film before I make a peep about it, and not prejudge it. I asked how any die hard Universal fans felt about a beloved classic in our genre being transformed into a remake in the era of other such remakes as "Mummy", etc. I am not bashing Del Toro. :peace

This statement wasn't really thought out. Some member of his family may lurk or even post on this board. I happen to know Ron Chaney always gets choked up at the thought of his Grandfather. :( :lecture

Haha. I seriously almost posted that exact sentence last night. He was great in that movie.

just as this thread was not meant to bash Benicio, that statement wasnt meant in any bad way towards Chaney. Just a frustrated statement induced by so many bad teams put together to remake so many good classics and when one seems to have a good team behind it, it still gets bashed. .. but to apease, I'll revise...

"... on second thought, maybe they could get a guy in a green suit to hold up my dead father's body in Chaney Jr make-up and animate him to reprise his role. ... yeah .. thats it! .. thats the way to make everyone happy."

... now Im so f*ckin pissed at myself for saying that ... im off to confront me regarding this statement ... brb

:peace

:mwaha :mwaha Uhhmmm...yeah, okay. (stepping slowly away from the monitor as if you were actually in the room with me). Seriously though, I wasn't trying to guilt trip you or anything its just on the internet world I've discovered that even the most polite of people don't stop to think who may read their posts. We treat it as if it were a one on one conversation with a buddy who "understands that we aren't serious, just kidding around". Don't sweat it, this stranger in cyberspace who you will probably never meet understands you much better now.

It will be a typical Hollywood CGI movie.

I would love it if they filmed in REAL locations and had real FX....not just CGI.

no big deal. Alls good. Im a huge smartass and without the wink wink, nudge nudge its easy to view comments compltely opposite of how I mean them. Sometimes I dont even see myself til its too late.

.. moving on .. how cool would it be if the new WolfMan was released in B&W? a la Ed Wood/ Young Frankenstein

.... and on another note ... does anybody have or has anyone seen the SS PF silver screen WolfMan in person? are the pics on SS's site really accurate to the product? I hope not.

Does anyone know if "Sin City" was a success at the box office? I haven't seen it, but I have heard it was black and white(?). I think Hollywood's present mentality is that if it doesn't have lots of explosions, or other effects that people won't be interested in it. I would like to see a movie, if not the Wolfman, filmed in b+w just to see if they could capture some of the older feel of some of the classics. BTW, about filming on studio lots and not entirely on location or with CGI backdrops, etc. I think one of the more MODERN creepy sequences ever filmed was the dogs/graveyard sequence in the original "Omen" with Gregory Peck. Wasn't that done on a studio lot (Shepperton?)? I haven't seen the Wolfman silver screen edition pf. I saw Frankenstein, though...I didn't like him as much as the Color Version PF.

On the idea of actors playing a bigger role in the films. Do we have any fans of M. Knight Shama...whatsisname? I really loved the "pot boiling" type of storytelling he indulged in with Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, and even Signs. Didn't think the village was the greates, but it was ok. Those films relied heavily on ACTORS and direction to carry them. Not on CGI. Do'n't get me wrong. I think CGI has a place in movies. I also think it has come to be too heavily relied upon. I really hope we see some yak hair glued on Del Toro in the movie, and a really cool set of lower fangs. Has anyone here ever read the paperback nocel "Return of the Wolfman"? It was really well written and a must for any Wolfman fan. It picks up right after the end of A+C meet Frankenstein and very neatly sets up a "Universal Monsters Universe" in a Marvel or DC Comics Universe kind of fashion. It was written by Jeff Rovin and tells what became of Chick Young and Wilbur Gray. Connects Dracula to Murder Legarnde (White Zombie), and even reveals Dracula's origin. I recommend.

Production Budget: $40 million
Worldwide: $158,930,820

Plus DVD and any spike in book sales.

Sin City rocked and this is the first role of B's I thought of when I read the post about him playing the wolfman. He's all sorts of scraggly looking (mid transformation-esque if you will) and has a real gutteral voice that I think could play well. While I am not a real old school horror fan I hope for those of you that are they do right with this film. Having an actor who is apparantly a big fan of the original material will hopefully go a long way.

I doubt that this movie will turn out allright, but you never know.

The mummy was enjoyable, but Van Helsing was just awfull, no story at all and only CGI.
It thought it started nice, but I was wrong and realised that after only 5 minutes...just hearing Dracula speak was enough...

But this Wolfman could be something nice, but doing better than the original will be very hard, especially because I like the performance of Lon Chaney Jr. so much.

I also heard that there will be a remake of the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Hope they will make something nice of that and don't over do it.

Since Del Toro is a Wofman fan, I'm sure as hell he would want to be dressed up as the monster and not resort to CGI.
