What I'm wondering about most is what is Chuck's current status, like in the BB timeline of events. Is he still alive and super pissed Jimmy had him committed? Does he kill himself? If he's still alive, I imagine it could be Saul's downfall. He sees him all over TV and linked to a meth empire... I'm dying to see how this played out. (much more-so than Mike)

What a fantastic Mike-centred episode, tonight. Even better than I was expecting. Nice to finally get the scoop on Mike's daughter-in-law. Always thought it was his daughter on Braking Bad and that they were a bit estranged or something. Nice reference to "Say My Name" right at the beginning and it's cool to see backstories being fleshed out. This is really a great example of a spin-off being done right, IMO.

Yep, fantastic episode and a fantastic acting job by Jonathan Banks. Really showed a vulnerable side of Mike that had never been shown before.

Fantastic episode. Banks' world weariness suits the character well. Anyone else spot Tweener from Prison Break as the younger cop? He must have finished his bit in jail for manslaughter a few years back.

Best episode so far, no doubt about it. Even when you knew where it was going, the dialog and acting took it to the next level.

Emmy and Golden Globe voters, for your consideration, Jonathan Banks's performance in "Five-O." Mike talking about his son there at the end...it had me crying like a baby. :lol It reminded me of Brando from On the Waterfront.

Also, Kerry Condon needs to appear on TV more often. I've been a fan of hers since Rome.

If Jonathan Banks doesn't win an Emmy for this episode I'm suing.

Definetively best episode yet, I thought Mike would get som development in this show, but not too this extent.

I've been re watching BB these last couple of weeks and it's interesting to see how different Saul becomes. In BCS he still wants to be a good lawyer on the straight and narrow. He has people he cares about. In BB, I can't imagine that he as anyone in his life that cares for him. His involvement with Mike is only ever on a professional level, they're never friends and Mike even threatens to beat Jesse's whereabouts out of him.

What year is the first season of this show set in? It will be interesting to see the show set in the BB timeline and find out what Saul was doing this whole time behind the scenes. As you say, is Chuck still alive? How much does he know about what Saul is doing?

It's set in 2002, six years before Breaking Bad.

Better Call Saul is supposed to show us how Jimmy "broke bad." I wouldn't be surprised if Chuck is alive, institutionalized and unaware of what his brother is up to during Breaking Bad. Out of sight, out of mind, right?

"Now, my partner here, he took one look at that and said, "****, man. This fifth-grade girl is the muscle behind Fring's entire operation.'"

"I said, 'Whoa, whoa. Hey, partner, slow down there.'"

:rotfl Still some of the best lines from BB.

It was good to get background on Mike, I had always thought his daughter in law had been his daughter on BB.

I was never a fan of Mike whilst watching BB though.

We still got to see the Mike we know (breaking into the cop car, setting-up his son's partners for the kill). I thought this added some depth to the character and I don't expect they'll overdo it. I wouldn't want to see a bunch more of him sobbing over his son or whatnot but it was an excellent character backfill episode, IMO.

We certainly don't need empty vignettes for every character. That's how I determined LOST was brain cancer.
