I'm talking original trilogy now, not your crummy prequels.

I like Star Wars over LOTR but i think LOTR are "better" movies
I think they are more polished films, but the Star Wars films (particularly the first two) are better made in terms of being better stories of genuine human drama IMO. And you do need to factor in the times and budget into these things. Lord of the Rings seemed to have free reign to do nearly anything they wanted to. That ranges from the visual effects to the actors to the locations to the reshoots, etc. They had access to fancy digital film enhancements that could be made to make the picture look and sound better than anything that was possible in the 70s and 80s. But were the performances really better? Did the story more effectively unfold? Was the drama more effective? I think that is very debatable.Lord of the Rings is better than Star Wars. They're the better-made films.
So Star Wars beats LOTR which beats Batman. What beats Star Wars?
Easy!
I'm not StarWars greatest fan, but even though the LOTR movies were awesome, I could never completely like this world.
I know Tolkien supposedly is a great writer and he thought about almost everything, down to languages, but I could never get over how empty his world is. Basically, you have three or four villages and the rest is empty...

Die Hard? Bourne? Indiana Jones? Honestly, with Nolan's Batman, those would probably be my top trilogies. Like I said in the LOTR thread -- I never got around to seeing that one, though. I liked all of those better than Star Wars -- though SW was certainly more groundbreaking.
Godfather? Back to the Future? Matrix (I remember Revolutions got rough reviews ... but I liked it alright)? Maybe Harry Potter (though longer than a trilogy -- never saw that one either)?
