I just can't muster the will to watch this. Star Wars will always mean something to me, like so many people it was a huge part of my childhood. And to be fair, it has been hit or miss for decades, long before Disney was in the picture. Hell, it was Lucas himself who fiddled with the classics and ensured no-one could (legally) enjoy them the way they were released. For me, the main change in this new era is the sheer saturation. That feels like it has devalued each title, it's no longer an event, no longer special. The TV series have only accentuated this feeling. I'm sick of Tatooine, Jawas, and all the other endlessly regurgitated references. I don't hold a grudge against Kathleen Kennedy at all. Her track record has been mixed of course, but this is not new to the franchise, and I'm sure the desire to churn out non-stop content goes above her head.

If I hear good things by the time it wraps up, I may go back and watch the whole show. I'm skeptical though. Shame. I really wanted Ewan to get to play Kenobi in something good. He remains a good choice for the role.

Watched both eps. Didn't hate it. Didn't love it. Just liked it. That Mando lightning isn't going to strike twice, so anything better than BOBF and/or completely sucking will at least entertain me.

Now, on the lightsaber talk. Why are they changing the hilt design?! Oh, yeah, to sell the new Hasbro FX saber. My bad. But seriously, the ANH Obi hilt is practically perfection. It's a grail of real-world parts and kit bashing, aka the true essence of Star Wars props. I have the Roman Props static ANH, weathered, and it's probably my most cherished hilt. I have NO intention of ditching it or modding it to look more like what's in this show. Just...no...

With that said, I find it odd that Ani's saber just looked like a regular fat Graflex with a bubble strip from ANH, but Obi's is like his ROTS hilt 're-stylized' to look like it's weathered and kinda like the original.

Everything we're going through now is ultimately Lucas' fault. If he had put more thought and heart into the prequels, if he had not been so butthurt about the backlash, if he had not sold his legacy to Disney, we would not be in this mess. Lucas is the unfortunately the driving reason for the best and worst of Star Wars. I can't blame the vultures at Disney for being vultures. It's just what they are. Lucas should not have sold, and I believe he regrets it.

This should completely change Leia’s message to Obi-Wan in ANH :slap

Shouldn’t it be
”Years ago you served my father by rescuing me.” Her rescue took place after the clone wars why would she use the clone wars to plead for help when she has at her disposal something way more personal and recent!
Has he so far only introduced himself as Ben... Perhaps her father never tells her his real name also. So that would help solve that issue.
The head inquisitor guy was actually very very good but of course they had to go political
with the white men found Reva in the gutter and she will always just be gutter underneath no matter her allegiance to the Empire and then her “who’s in the gutter now” comeback ughhhh.
I loved his voice. I did not even think of the Gutter / black thing.. You racist :lol Did not bother me. Line would have worked the same if the actress was white.
I am looking forward to episode 3 I guess that’s a good thing and more importantly NOT for the laughs like I was with BOBF.

BOBF went off the comedy rails!

That being said
Leia’s 2 chase sequences were scooter gang levels of cringe!
First time reading this.. Always funny when we make the same comparison :lol
The Grand Inquisitor is the last thing to hate upon in this show he was actually very well portrayed!

Can we please stick with the slower than TLJ chase scenes, focus people lol
:lol it really was bad.. But at least there is an excuse. You are dealing with a nine year old who runs really weird... That scooter chase is just... man.. all kinds of bad.

Speaking of dead... I just watched the first episode of Kenobi.

It was terrible. Other than the already established cast, the new casting was like a really bad film school short. The worst offender was that Reva. The exchange between her and China-Joe in the "alley" was perhaps the worst scene I have ever seen. It was like the director said "do it at half speed". But then, the majority of direction felt uninspired and left with a "they'll fix it in editing" mindset.

No energy, no genuine drama, just drab meandering through familiar settings.

Once again, hollow music.

The opening scene made no sense... unless of course Reva in among the group in that moment. We'll see if the writer's are that clever.

Obi-Wan buries his lightsaber but keeps his Republic Jedi communicator? OK.

I don't know. I just don't know. Perhaps this episode should have taken Obi-Wan's advice: go out into the desert and bury it.

I bet you anything, if they started with a crawl and Episode 2 it would be better: Obi-Wan Kenobi has been called out of retirement to help rescue a kidnapped Leia...

That's all I need...
Hmmm Terrible?

Yeah we are on different sides of the coin hear. But I think that has something to do with our feelings on the SW product as a whole. Correct me if I am wrong but I think you are in the OT only camp correct? So anything post OT is going to be hard for you to enjoy and I 100% get that.

I find things in the SW film media to enjoy that is not called BoBF.

Its far from perfect but so is just about everything in SW that is not ANH or ESB.

If you like the PT or ST I really cant see how you can complain. The quality of this show IMO is so far better then both. Better acting then PT, and feels more like SW then the ST.

I agee / dont agree about the music being Hallow. I felt that way with Mand and BoBF. But this show has at least made the music louder and more a part of the story. These SW TV shows really need to focus on more themes for major characters like the films had. Would help a lot.

Just watched these two and they're bloody awful!

It all feels empty and like they allowed amateur fan-fiction writers and directors and actors for this show. Reva is awful, her acting and writing are weird. Poor dialogue with a look of constant anger as acted by a teenager, no other emotion than a slight scowl, she literally huffs at one point! The scene where Flea is collapsed at a door and as soon as the door open she just says in a deadpan manner, where is he? HUFF! Scene cut. Absolutely hilariously awful.
I loved being treated to not one, but TWO! Seperate scenes of little annoying Leia comedically outrunning various adults and species and pulling off a perfect gymnastic slide to evade capture. The smallest slowest runner constantly able to get away from her chasers, pure gold television. Also, it's not enough that perhaps Leia acquired her tough character throughout her lifetime, no, she is a feisty Leia straight away at the ripe old annoying age of 10.

The kinetic filming of it all, the fast paced quickness of scene to scene... it all feels empty, hollow, unauthentic and insincere. It seems like they struggled to come up with a narrative reason for this show to exist. Obi-Wan has one task and one task only, to watch over Luke. He knows the Inquisitors have made a connection to Leia so what does he do? Hop off-planet he knew the Inquisitors were on, after seeing them threatening Owen to kill him and his family, and then decides to leave them all to their good old selves. Bravo!

Bloody hope this gets better. Book of Boba is currently better than this. And my God that awful shootout and parkour rooftop running. No bounty hunter can hit Obi-Wan and he can hit nothing back, but good guy bounty hunters going to stop shooting him so he can, in the most anti-climactic manner, use the force to save Leia from falling, when he knows full well that she could have just Mary Poppins'd herself. What a lackluster was to introduce him back to the force.

Sums the show up. Can't wait to see more famous actors clamor at the chance to be in a at the moment very bad show.

If you think these people care about reproducing the props, just take a look at the costumes, and aliens, and creatures and makeup... etc etc. They don't.

:lol

IDK... If you hate everything post OT I can see not liking this show. But its telling a story I am interested in so far.

I'll have to go back and find your review and see your criticism of it.

I am enjoying it.

Even if I was not enjoying it there is not enough to hate in it to dump all over it. Maybe I am missing something.
I don't think you're missing anything. The execution so far hasn't been great by any stretch of the imagination, but the setup is there for a very compelling story. IMO 2 episodes is way too early to throw the baby out with the bath water.

I also don't get everyone's hate for Reva. Is the actress overacting a tad? Possibly, but we still don't know her character's motivations so it could be exactly what Deborah Chow wanted. Besides, between the shortness of the series and the number of principal characters (Obi-Wan, DV, GI and Reva), they probably couldn't slowly evolve her into a hot-headed, rebellious Inquisitor.

What will be material for the filler episodes for this series

My choices

* A day in the life of Owen, Beru and Luke on the farm “

* Palapatine’s next move

* The hobo clone trooper’s life

* How Bail and his wife met

* Yoda on Degobah

* Reva’s past

Interesting what they might come up with

The entire idea of Inquisitors is stupid. It was just another way for the Clone Wars cartoon to keep having people fighting with lightsabers. I mean, for the Jedi to be all but forgotten by the time of ANH, you know with "ancient weapons and hoaky religions", there sure were an awful lot of people running around with lightsabers in the years after their supposed extinction.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think you are in the OT only camp correct?

Nope. Rogue One is my 3rd fav Star Wars.

I had posted once that there are only 5 good Star Wars movies:
Star Wars (retitled ANH)
ESB
ROTJ
ROTS
RO

Only three of those I can revisit and sit through in its entirety.

My hopes are strongly with Andor as far as Disney TV. I have not watched Obi-Wan Episode 2 yet but I have already given up on this show.

That said, I hated BoBF as well... even though it gave me the BEST Disney Star Wars villain yet -- Cad Bane. And yes, I know he comes from the cartoons, not Disney -- I mean the live action version.

That's another great point. Leia is 10 in this, in a New Hope she's 19, so in the space of 9 years, or 19 years if you want to date from Order 66, Jedi have become legends, as in people didn't even know they existed, their beliefs and who they were forgotten to time... all 19 years of it.

Yep. What is 911 again?

Think about how often our culture still mentions and is influenced by the events of WW2, which was nearly a century ago. Now imagine a full scale war on a galactic scale, except by the time kids born at the end of the war are teenagers, the combatants of that war are like fairy tale legends.

Hey if Disney wants to have a black female lead named sister being accused by the head inquisitor that she is angry and screaming befitting of her gutter origins (Disney words not mine) then more power to them i’ll just sit back and enjoy the lulz.

Her arc will be one where she will either be redeemed like a Disney Store gift card and live or redeemed but still murdered by Vader.

I prefer the latter.

I am curious of her backstory (Jedi temple?).

I personally don’t have a problem with her character she performed adequately enough to convey her hatred and hope of pleasing Vader which will make her death that much more ironic and thematically rewarding to watch in the service of making Vader more bad ***.

Again if her sole purpose is to only make Vader more bad *** then i’m fully onboard.

But if her sole purpose is for political statements you know like maybe a white inquisitor lecturing a black inquisitor that:

“It will not change what you are!”

She asks “And what is that?”

He answers with “THE LEAST OF US!” “You came to us from the gutter!” and then ends with “ALL THE POWER IN THE WORLD CAN’T MASK THE STENCH BENEATH!”

To which she responds back with “MAYBE THAT STENCH IS YOUR FAILURE!”

Insert jye eye roll!

Great thank you Disney for an on the nose racial debate between sith villains which was not needed.

If he is bothered by her “stench” why did he even bring her along it made no narrative sense.

Ughh whatever.

Anyways back to her arc.

Now if she gets redeemed and lives which I think is the more likely scenario then meh.

I hope she bites it by Vader even if redeemed lol

I love this show, watched again a third time today. I like Reva, I find her more interesting than anyone from the ST, even GI was interesting. Ewan is fantastic, little Leia is fun.

My only issue is that my wish was for him to learn Anakin survived by running into him by surprise, not through someone else, but at least Ewan played the reaction perfectly. Can’t wait to see him dealing with it in part 3.

Such a mess.

This is not a character worth exploring, even if the actress could deliver a convincing performance and not look like a 16yr old in cosplay.

Why does this low level Inquisitor even know Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker? Why does anyone know? Did they have her know this terrible secret JUST to blab it to Obi-Wan for that scene?

I did notice even in just one episode her big dialogue trick is to throw everything right back at the other person.

My life is your fault.

I hate that attitude.
I absolutely do hate the perpetual victim ideology in real life and then being lectured about it by dumb media companies BUT….

With that being said I’ve been thinking about that specific line of dialogue in the context of the show and I guess the point she was trying to make was that the stench of failure was his own for his lack of failure finding Obi-Wan.

I guess it makes sense but that back and forth was honestly not needed and all about real world racial issues.
