Solid Snake Beating Big Boss Twice.. i Recall Solid Snake Being Young and Big Boss being an old man in his late 50s .. some will call it an achievement for Solid Snake.. or will it be an achievement for the Old man for keeping up with a younger clone of himself

Age isn't a factor in MGS.

Old Ocelot and Snake were more than capable to keep up with younger soldiers. I mean, Ocelot was able to jump on the top of RAY at 65 years old :lol

All too true. The End was sprinting around at just over 100 years old, Major Zero/David Oh was 105 before his plug was pulled, Old Boy was a scrapped MGS2 boss that's similar to The End. Solid Snake, though only 42, was the equivalent of being 70-80, etc.

I forgot about the End! :slap

Yeah Snake was basically a walking corpse, I think the End was the only person who looked worse than Snake. Big Boss looked in better health in the end of MGS4.

Solidus owns them both ;)

I choose Big Boss. After all I think his storyline is slightly more interesiting (and still holding potential for more good stuff). I like the old-school, jungle, cold-war vibe the character has. Also, presonally I find the idea of normal born human, who lived such an extraordinary life and acommplished so much, a little bit more evocative then adventures of his super-cloned babies.

But its a close match. Love them both.

:goodpost: I can't say who I like better, but the reasons you gave are why I like Big Boss.

Really liking Big Boss at the moment. They're round about the same for me to be honest but playing through MGS3 lately and really enjoying this playthrough

I honestly can't pick, since I like both about equally. Though I should note--folks are discussing all the ways that Solid is better, Naked Snake had the coolest game environment of all of them IMO in MGS3, and I like the fact that they used the Cold War time period as a back drop. That really appeals to me vis-a-vis the more futuristic tone of the other games.

In my mind, the entire franchise is more successful at creating interesting characters, mood, and great gameplay than it is at crafting a really good story. And considering that, MGS3 is at least an equal to any of the other MGS games in my opinion, though I love all of the games in the primary series (putting aside Raiden and his cartwheels and whatnot in MGS 2 *barf*).

MGS3 soaked in a lot of new gamers and a lot of people actually started with that game. It's still a masterpiece to this day.

Naked Snake was a great character in MGS3, but I seen too much of Snake in his look and background so I couldn't quite take it seriously. As a game, MGS3 is awesome still.

I look at MGS3 as MG1 redux, same outline for the plot when you think about it. Naked Snake needs to kill the Boss, Solid Snake needs to kill Big Boss.

He only has his own identity in MGS5.

Snake is more tragic than any other MGS character. His life has been all over the place since the 90's.

Big Boss has been brooding ever since Snake Eater and his character development stopped at the end of MGS3. MPO and PW should of never been created.

Raiden.

Haha, just kidding guys. If Raiden was included, I would probably chose him -- although I am not too sure yet. I like the dude, and I like MGR, but I couldn't call that game "development" for him as a character. ( I hope MGR2 fixes dat ****)

But without digressing too much, I'll be straightforward and say it's Solid Snake I prefer.

It may have something to do with Snake being the first Metal Gear Solid character I got to meet, but to me, Snake, as a clone, feels more relatable and alive than Big Boss, don't ask me how, but the clone wins there.

Besides that, I only really liked him as Naked Snake, in MGS3, and even there, he spent a lot of his time angsting about his cherished Boss when it came to it and didn't really accomplish an exceptional lot.

I like Big Boss too, but I gotta be honest and give my vote to the Solidmeister.

Yeah, I don't disagree with any of the pro-Solid points really, but I still just really love MGS3, derivative though it might be in many respects. And frankly, a derivative MGS1 game was refreshing like a cool spring rain to me after the disappointment of only controlling Snake for a brief intro. in MGS2 :lol

You proved my point that it comes down to if you were introduced to that character first or if you prefer the era they are in.

I never felt Big Boss was as relatable as Solid Snake.

The whole Raven speech to Snake in MGS1 made him a whole person to me. How he would never have peace no matter how many people he killed.

Campbell also says to Naomi after calling him a killer that sure he's killed a lot of people but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a heart.

I love MGS2 for what it is minus Raiden. I think the story was very thought out and well delivered.

But yeah, the only reason to play MGS2 is to play as bad *** middle aged mulleted Solid Snake :rpcl

Same can be said with the Final Fantasy series :lol

But not I, I just found the story as well as the setting, the gameplay, the characters much more interesting and engaging in MGS3. Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 was my first MGS, and I've played them all in order of release.

I feel pretty much the same way.

Solid Snake every god damned day of the god damned week.

I'm pretty surprised how many votes Snake got, I really expected to Snake to lose this by a land slide since a lot of people are huge MGS3 fans.

Here I thought there was only a few of us carrying the torch for Snake :lol

I started with MGS1 and loved Solid, but MGS3 simply blew me away as the best MGS game in the whole series and never have I felt more of an emotional attachment to Big Boss with what he had to go through, ie losing an eye, have to scurry for food and have to patch himself up through injuries, getting tortured (I felt his torture was a lot more brutal than Solid or Raiden combined) and having to kill his beloved Boss.
