What happens in the middle is of no consequence, if the finished product turns out on par with Matt's tbat stuff will be easily forgotten.
That's true, however I haven't seen anything that indicates that this is in any way likely to happen at all, or that it is frankly even possible for that matter.
For a start that sculpted likeness, for reasons we have all repeatedly been made fully aware of, is nowhere near as accurate as the Smith headsculpt was, by BC's own admission. What we end up with may well be a completely acceptable compromise, given said issues, but in no way will it be on par with the Smith piece, just on those grounds alone. The blank expression isn't helping matters much either, but maybe good paints can wrestle a little more life into it so that isn't quite such an issue.
At best, to me this seems like it might be a solid piece, as long as the final paints work out and there are no other major issues. But I fear anyone expecting this to be every bit as good as the Matt Smith piece at this point is just setting themselves up for disappointment.
That said, I'd still be happy to be proven wrong. Because I'd rather see everyone fully satisfied with their purchase, than be correct about my own lingering doubts. The realist in me just can't see this as being anything more than 'good enough', whereas the Matt Smith piece to my mind was quite a few notches above that, and the David Tennant, Tom Baker and Sherlock pieces thus far also look far more promising overall.
We shall see.
